Smoking
Volusia County provides a smoke-free work environment. Smoking inside all Regional facilities, including owned and leased vehicles, is prohibited. Smoking is permitted in exterior designated smoking areas only. Smokers have a special obligation to keep outside smoking areas free of litter and to dispose of all smoking materials in proper receptacles.
Nepotism and Fraternization
The County permits the volunteer involvement of qualified relatives of employees as long as such volunteer involvement does not, in the opinion of the County, create actual or perceived conflicts of interest. For purposes of this policy, “relative” is a spouse, significant other, child, parent, sibling, grandparent, grandchild, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew or corresponding in-law or “step” relation. The County exercises sound business judgment in the placement of related volunteers in accordance with the following guidelines:

A more formal performance review may be conducted at any time at the discretion of the volunteer’s supervisor. Performance reviews are intended to reflect the volunteer’s effectiveness on the job, and are a continuing record of work performance. They allow the supervisor to measure the volunteer’s work against the requirements of his or her position, review results of negotiated business goals, and assess general performance behaviors. Volunteers can expect to receive performance reviews at least annually.
As a result of performance feedback, volunteer development activities may be pursued. Volunteer development is a collaborative effort between the Volusia County, supervisors and volunteers to align individual goals with the overall direction of the Volusia County. Short term, episodic and spontaneous volunteers should also receive regular feedback from their supervisors.
Communicating with Volunteer
For my service leaning assignment, I volunteered at the Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival in support of the Montgomery County Food Bank receiving donations at the festival entrance. In volunteering at the event, I learned the differences in service learning, volunteerism and community service and will provide details in what I learned a about each. I will also provide details and examples of teamwork, communication and networking experiences gained while at the event. A brief overview of the Montgomery County Food bank will also be provided with information on the assignment task, measurable success and interaction with fellow students and organization directors.
New volunteers are recruited through means of social media, news media and word of mouth by current volunteers. Two volunteer trainings are offered each year, a spring session and fall session. The Independent Study format is used in training with most of the reading completed as homework. The tenured volunteers participate in the in-service training which allows new volunteers ask questions of them and learn from them. The last few sessions of training involve practice court report writing and role playing which prepares them for working a case.
I volunteered at Lenoir Memorial Hospital the Summer of 2015. I received about 58 hours of community service. Ms. Ann Durusky is the Director of Volunteer Services at the hospital. Volunteering at the hospital entails admitting and discharging patients from their rooms, escorting patients or guests to where they need to be, delivering emails, flowers, and gift baskets. At first, I was sent with the lead volunteer of our group and a partner, until I was able to remember what procedures to take in different situations.
Volunteer Recruiting and Development are also in a maturation
My name is Mideny Bell. I am a Junior undergraduate at Florida International University. I read a flyer during a conference on campus about a need for volunteer for your program and I would like to know what the volunteer position entails before I respond. I speak both Creole and English. Please let me know of anything that may require my assistance.
The definition of the word volunteer is to freely offer to do something. Looking at that definition, they word “freely” is key in explaining what volunteering really is. Someone who volunteers should do it out of the kindness of their heart and truly believe in what they are volunteering for without expecting or receiving any recognition of payment for their volunteer work. Although I believe any volunteer work is great not only for our community, but also for the individual, I am conflicted on the Silver Cord program. The Silver Cord program at Waukee High School provides great opportunities for high schoolers to give back to the community and get involved in other volunteering positions, however, do these high schoolers really volunteer their time for the betterment of their community?
In the year 1600, tobacco spread all through the United States and in the nations around it. To the people in America, tobacco smoking was taken as a tradition which they all had adopted. By the year 1604, James I the king of England, opposed tobacco smoking, saying that it would cause wild behaviors to the people. By then, tobacco smoking had become a habit for most of the people in England and they begged to be allowed to continue doing it. In the year 1612, tobacco was planted not only to be consumed now but also as a cash crop.
Furthermore, the volunteers do different projects depending on if they do agriculture, education, health, or environment. For example, agriculture volunteers work with
Given that I was born and raised in Puerto Rico by two Haitian parents, I’ve always had a strong concern for the poor living conditions in developing countries. For this reason, I am deeply passionate for international development focused on education, human rights and health. I consider working with the Peace Corps one of the highest possible callings. My wonderful years in academic philosophy studying Ethics and Foreign Languages have honed my ability to communicate well and sharpened my research skills. Yet, my professional goals in international affairs and development require a broad, multidisciplinary approach to program analysis, research and theory.
The volunteers are similar to the volunteers I work with every day at City Year. Everyone comes from different states and different cultures, but we are all share the same purpose. That purpose is to bridge the gap in the education
1. What were your expectations before you started serving this organization (physical characteristics, neighborhood, personnel, individuals you served, etc.? This article focuses on the ban on tobacco display. It deals with the aspects of negative externalities of consumption caused by the consumption of tobacco and cigarettes and the effect of the ban on tobacco display on small businesses. A negative externality is a cost that is suffered by the entire society as a result of an economic transaction. In a transaction, the producer and consumer are the first and second parties, and third parties include any individual, organisation, property owner, or resource that is indirectly affected.
There is no doubt that altruistic attitudes play a significant role in motivating people to volunteer, but it is not the only factor that contributes to drive people involve in volunteering. According to functional approach, Clary and his colleagues (1998) have proposed six motivational functions which potentially served by volunteerism, which are Values, Understanding, Social, Career, Protective, and Enhancement. Involving in volunteering work may provide the opportunities for volunteers to express values related to altruistic and humanitarian concerns for others. Understanding function indicates volunteers they could have new learning experiences and the chance to exercise their knowledge and skills. The third function is concerning relationships with others.
