Wag the Dog, a film directed by Barry Levinson, is about the media’s fabrication of war. The main character in the movie, Conrad Brean- a top ranking public relations executive, is brought in to take all the negative attention away from the President. During this election, the President is facing hard judgement from voters because of sexual misconduct allegations. Conrad Brean decided that in order to turn all the attention away from the President, the media representatives needed to make up a war against Albania. In 1949 the local goverment decided to place low income houses where the poor neighborhood was. They were ordered to leave. They were promised new housing to mollify the neighborhood.

Buetow “tries to emulate”(41) Duncan following the ways Duncan lives his life. Buetow before having Duncan considered himself “street smart” (42) shyly avoiding eye contact with people he didn’t know or think he wanted to know. Out of all of the stories, “What The Dogs Could Teach Me” by Gary Paulsen and “The Sniper” by Liam O’Flaherty, “Flowers” by Alice Walker had the best description. “Frayed, rotted, bleached, and frazzled-barely there-but spinning restlessly in the breeze.” With this quote, you can easily picture the old noose swaying in the breeze. A quote from “The Sniper” says “His hand trembled with eagerness.” Unlike the other passages, “The Flowers” creates a vivid image in your mind of what’s going on in your story.

Then again, I really was not shocked because I know that they are people that put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into a company and do not make enough money.
In the movie Wag the Dog, the President of the United States is accused by a local firefly girl of sexual misconduct while privately showing her a bust inside the oval office. Conrad Brean must divert the attention of the press to save the campaign which is only eleven days away. A desperate Brean decides to do so by creating the appearance of a war in Albania because, well, frankly, “who knows anything about Albanians?” By employing a Hollywood producer, Motss, he manages to produce a war which captures the public’s attention just like Hollywood produces the Oscars and Miss America.
No one in the film asks why the war with Albania started or take the time to look more deeply into the war itself. These people saw the images and become consumed with the ideas and happened to more concerned with the images. In Wag the Dog, the media executives create a fake video, that showcases a girl escaping her village. This Albiana girl is actually an actor and yet everyone believe the terrifying image. The media executives, know that the spectacle will create a distraction, one away from the president, and at a meeting the executives even discuss past wars.
