J. Robert Oppenheimer Imagine how famous you would be if you were intelligent enough to help hundreds of scientists and physicists assemble nuclear weapons? Physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer must have felt the same way During World War II. Julius Robert Oppenheimer was born on April 22, 1904, in New York City. He was known as "The Father of the Atomic Bomb" because of his assistance with assembling nuclear weapons during World War II. He is also known for the Born-Oppenheimer Approximation; the assumption that the electronic motion and the nuclear motion in molecules can be separated.
In 1939, the scientific community, specifically German physicists had learned the secrets of splitting a uranium atom (The Manhattan Project” 2015). America realized that Adolf Hitler’s Germany obtained a massive amount of scientific talent. With their access had necessary raw materials and knowledge of the splitting of the uranium atom, they had the industrial capacity to produce an atomic bomb(“Manhattan Project”2014). The atomic bomb would eventually become the turning point of weaponry during World War II. On October 11, 1939, President Franklin D. Roosevelt received a letter from Albert Einstein about the splitting of the uranium atom which could be beneficial in developing weapons for America during World War II.

Ronald Valentine Toomer was born in 1930 and died in 2011. He is credited with building 93 roller coasters around the world. “He graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1961 with a degree in mechanical engineering and was a part of the design team responsible for the Apollo spacecraft heat shield. He was hired by Arrow Development in 1965 to design a mine train ride at Six Flags Over Texas.” “In 1981, Arrow Development was purchased by Huss Maschinenfabrik, which merged with Arrow Development to form Arrow-Huss. Toomer was made vice president and manager of engineering.
Kaitlin Schmitt 1/4/18 Hour 1 Mr. Stock J. Robert Oppenheimer Julius Robert Oppenheimer was a very successful man in his lifetime. He was known as the father of the atomic bomb and is very important in history. Robert Oppenheimer stood out in his childhood, had many adults accomplishments, and had many major events later in his life. Julius Robert Oppenheimer was born on April 22, 1904, in New York City, to German Jewish immigrants parents, who were rich. Oppenheimer's father was a German immigrant and his job was importing textiles which he made a fortune doing, and his mother was an American-born painter who had studied in Paris.
This idea was then tested by Mark Oliphant, who, referring to Rutherford’s nuclear transmutation experiments, successfully fused hydrogen isotopes in his lab, and his conclusions supported those of Atkinson and Houtermans. Building upon the work of his peers, Hans Bethe used this new concept of nuclear fusion to explain how stars produce energy, and work out the steps of the main cycle of nuclear fusion in stars. However, largely funded research into nuclear fusion only began due to military incentives, during the Second World War, as part of the Manhattan Project. This research cumulated in the development and testing of the first hydrogen bomb, the Ivy Mike, which used nuclear fusion to produce a massive explosion. Research into harnessing the power of nuclear fusion for civil purposes only started in the 1950s, and this will be a large focus of this study.
The Manhattan Project was a pivotal point in time. The Manhattan Project derived its name because there were approximately “ten different laboratories in Manhattan” that tested the splitting the atom and the creation of the Atomic Bomb. There are also some opinions that the name was derived because Robert Oppenheimer grew up on “Riverside Drive in Manhattan.” Recall the quote by Robert Oppenheimer, “that atomic bombs make future wars unendurable.” As he believed, these bombs have created an entirely new type of warfare. The Atomic Bomb helped the United States, and many other countries, learn and understand out how to use the atom as a weapon and resource for future warfare uses. Despite the innovation of the Atomic Bomb, and its critical part in helping the Allies win World War II, “the Atomic Bomb eventually became less effective and somewhat

The Manhattan Project maintained control over the research, development, and production of American atomic weapons. As a result two type of atomic bombs were developed. The Manhattan Project brought nations together, took the necessary measure to end World War II, and gave America multiple industrial advancements that are
