A business that is currently highly needed and started out as a little neighborhood drug store is known to the world as “Walgreens pharmacy”. Founded by Charles R Walgreens Sr. in 1901, knowing his idea would become so grand was unimaginable. He first experienced the world of pharmacy at the age of 16, nevertheless, it was the accident involving the loss of part of his finger that paved the road to Walgreen’s Pharmacy existence. It was when Charles Sr. chopped off the top joint of his middle finger at a shoe factory job, lead him into his new world. He became a pharmacist, a successful business owner, and an exceptional successful entrepreneur landing in a hot spot of the world of retailing (‘Our Past” 1995).

Walgreens Pharmacy is in all the 50 states, Puerto Rico, District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, handling a total of 8,175 stores (wiki). Part if their mission is to be the worlds most loved pharmacy-led health, beauty retailers, consequently with the company expanding and evolving to reach various targets and prospects, it has made Walgreens the leading pharmacy around. Over the years the changes that has undergone starting from him manufacturing his own drugs to give customers high quality drugs at affordable costs, expanding, adding retail as well as non-profit work. The business went into foreign property after Walgreen Sr died, Walgreen Jr. went on to continue his father legacy. The company went towards technology in 1981, becoming the first drugstore to connect all its pharmacies through satellite which consequently opened the door to many more opportunities (“Our Past” 1995). Technology allowed them to expand to drive thru, next day photofinishing, faster prescription fills and customer service, online pharmacy.
