Robin Sharma once said, “Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end.” This quote really relates to Sal because when her mother left she was a mess and it was hard for her. Later, she moved and more things changed and things happened that she didn 't expect to happen. Although, in the end she was happy in Bybanks and happy with her family and friends. In the book Walk Two Moons, by Sharon Creech, Sal changes significantly from a lot of external forces in her life. One of the biggest external forces that cause Sal to change is when she moved to Euclid, Ohio because she use to live in Bybanks, Kentucky and she loved it there, but then she moved to Euclid. Sal use to live in Bybanks, Kentucky where she had lived for most of her life. When she moved the Euclid she missed everything in Bybanks and she didn’t want to move. When she moved, she didn’t want anything to do with Euclid. It was very hard for her to adjust and she just wanted to go back to Bybanks. Sal says, “ ‘No trees?’ I said. ‘This is where we’re going to live?’ “ (page 1). Sal says, “He pronounced Illinois ‘I’ll-ah-no-way,’ exactly the way everyone in Bybanks, Kentucky, pronounced it, and hearing that ‘Ill-ah-no-way’ made me suddenly homesick for Bybanks,” (page 33). This is a kid who, in the past, didn’t live in Euclid. She lived in Bybanks, Kentucky, where there were trees, a swimming hole, a barn, and Sal loved all that. When she moved to Euclid she saw that there were no trees and
“Home is where the heart is” (Unknown). Meaning how homes are made of families and love. In the novle Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech, Sal changes due to the settings, Bybanks, Kentucky, Euclid, Ohio, and Lewiston, Idaho. Bybanks is important to Sal because that is where her old home was. The author uses Sals thoughts to show how Bybanks is important to her, “...he did not bring the chestnut tree, the willow, the maple, the hay loft, or the swimming hole, which all belonged to me” (Creech 1).
(Walk Two Moons, 10.) But then I realized that she had a good reason. She had lived in the same house her whole life, and she was suddenly moved to this “pint-sized,” or, “pocket-sized,” (Walk Two Moons, 11,) house, she had very good reason to be stubborn. I grew to love Sal. Her oddities, her bravery, her orneriness.
Sal lived with her mom on a farm in Bybanks, Kentucky. After a devastating incident involving her mother, (Chanhassan) left her family and never came back. After this incident, Salamanca later moved to Euclid, Ohio. In Ohio, she had met her best friend Phoebe Winterbottom. Phoebe also encountered a similar experience with a different outcome.
Whether no one would like to admit it or not, change is a difficult and not to mention uncomfortable experience which we all must endure at one point in our lives. A concept that everyone must understand is that change does not occur immediately, for it happens overtime. It could take days, weeks, months, or even years. In “St. Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves” by-Karen Russell, she talks about three werewolf girls trying to fit in the human society. The author makes it evident to the readers that the narrator, which is claudette is in a brand new environment as the story begins.
Sal points out her life before everything fell apart, her
It was interesting to note although some of their feelings in response to the stress were similar, other feelings were unique. For example, Lisa had a difficult time when her father was at Loma Linda and she was unable to visit him every day. Millie experienced the financial strain of being the sole bread winner and being responsible for the numerous medical costs associated with Jose’s care. Zeke’s frustration came in the form of the day to day care of his father, getting him dressed and undressed, making sure his prosthetic leg was on properly, and trying to see to his every comfort. Because Jose was not always cooperative this tried Zeke’s patience.
Sal can’t just throw away something or someone that she loves, so she memorizes
We had lived in the small bayside fishing village of Fields Landing since I had been in the first grade, now in the third grade, I was moving. I was not sad to say goodbye to the mudflats and train tracks of Fields Landing. The farm was in a ‘town' called Larabee, across the Eel River. This was the place where I learned what land is. Before having moved around, I had witnessed the terraformed man-made land, city parks, and trim grass filled lawns, I knew what that was.
Even while Salva “fights his demons” he decides to keep walking instead of giving up. Themes from the book such as persistence and perseverance save his life and thus influence his choices as the book progresses. Additionally, Nya chose to keep fetching water for her family, despite the long dangerous path that she had to make every day while barefoot. Her perseverance as well as her determination for her family led to people such as her dad drilling a well in their village, not only helping their family, but also the lives of others. Salva on the other hand embarked on a journey with his uncle and complete strangers.
An unknown person once said, “ One of the hardest lessons in life is letting go. Whether it’s guilt, anger, love, loss, or betrayal. Change is never easy. We fight to hold on and we fight to let go.” This is incredibly shown on multiple occasions throughout the book Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech.
Sal experiences many conflicts throughout the story that allow her to grow and change as a character. “ No trees? “ I said, this is where we are going to live? “ ( 1 ). Sal experiences conflict in this example because she is internally in love with her old house in Bybanks, Kentucky.

In the excerpt from “Cherry Bomb” by Maxine Clair, the narrator makes use of diction, imagery and structure to characterize her naivety and innocent memories of her fifth-grade summer world. The diction employed throughout the passage signifies the narrator’s background and setting. The narrator’s choice of words illustrates how significant those memories were to her. Specific words help build the narrator’s Midwestern background with items like the locust, cattails and the Bible.
There might be someone you look up to. In your eyes they may be the most amazing person in the world. They might have flaws like everyone else, but you chose to ignore those flaws and see the amazing person they are. Mr. Winterbottom, the father of Phoebe once went to a carnival. They played an age guessing game, in this game they guessed his age way older than his real age.
An example of change is when Raphael said “We stuck together we stayed in the dark.” I understand from this that rat has changed into a boy with friends and who is cared for. This reveals to me that Rats change was good for him and he has found some kind of happiness. Rats change helped me understand the importance of friends and family.
