Steve is a monster.
You are a murderer, you killed an innocent old man!!! Steve was a 16 year old boy living in New York City, he had a positive vibe and liked to do photography. One day he saw there was a robbery and the owner was killed (nesbitt). About 5 months later a cop got him and he was put on trial for murder. In the novel, Monster, by Walter Dean Myers, Steve Harmon was a good person because he cared for others and he wanted the world to be a better place.
Steve was a good person because he cared about everyone.During my quote Steve is in a jail cell,he starts to think about jerry. He says he missed Jerry and he wished he was there with him but not in jail. The author wrote, “I wish

While Steve was watching the news, he saw pictures on the tv and he felt disturbed. The pictures were nesbitt dead. Nesbitt owned a drug store, the drug store was robbed and during the robbery he was shot and killed. He ended up dying by his lungs filling up with blood and drowning in his own blood. The book says, “He is very much involved with depicting his neighborhood and environment in a positive manner.”’ (Myers 235)This proves Steve is a good person because he still cares about if people die, nesbitt and him were not even close and he felt upset about what happened to him. He was disturbed that people would do that to an old man that worked his whole life just to get that drug store. It made him feel sick to his stomach and felt like humanity was falling. Furthermore,During this, Jerry and Steve were on the couch watching tv, Jerry said that they should be superheroes and help people. Steve said that would be cool because he could help people when they need help, when they are hurt, and when they are in danger. The author wrote,“‘ I bet you'd be a cool super hero. You know who you should be … batman. Then I could be robin’’’ (Myers 58). This shows Steve is a good person because he shows that he wants to help strangers or anyone. A normal murderer wouldn't wanna help anyone if they are in danger they would just try to save themselves.he is also willing to just risk his life for a …show more content…
But just because he was a bad person it doesn’t mean that he was one. He could’ve just done what he wanted and not what his friends were doing. However, the people who he hung out with didn’t make Steve a bad person too. Therefore,Steve was a good person. Steve was a good person because he was not guilty. At the end of the trial, the jury made their decision. The author wrote, “The guards who were standing behind Steve moved away from him. He has been found not guilty.” (Myers 276).Steve being a good person has better reasons than him being a bad person because one of the reasons for him being a bad person was because he was friends with bad people. Just because he is friends with bad people doesn't mean he does the same stuff as them. This made him a good person because 12 people all had to agree he didn’t do the
In court, Ms. Petrocelli was talking about Steve being involved with the crime. The author wrote “‘The man who was to enter the store and check it out is sitting at the other table. His name is Steven Harmon.”’ (Myers 24). Steve probably being involved with the crime of helping the criminals with robbing the store shows that he is a bad person.
but i'm just going to name the top three. First steve has a guilty conscious Which means he's doubting himself about being the lookout. If he knew he wasn't a bad person Than he wouldn't be trying to convince everyone that he is a good person. Another reason is steve has multiple witnesses.
Steve might have gone into the drugstore then left because he was scared. However, this still means that Steve would be charged with felony murder if he would have admitted it to the jury and they ruled him guilty, he would have gotten a lesser sentence because he was not fully involved. O'Brien also made another point that could make some room for reasonable doubt in her closing statements. After she repeated to the jury the conversation where Mrs. Petrocelli and Mr. Evans talked about what happened after the robbery, she brings up the point “Where was Steve Harmon, the alleged lookout man?”(249). If Steve was really a part of this robbery you would think that he would go with Evans and King after to eat and get his share of the money from the
Steven said that he was not guilty and he dropped her not harmed. He also said that he just happened to look back while he stopped on a bridge riding his bike and he saw that Lynne entered into a grey car. Some witnesses testified that Steven really did all those things. They also said that they saw Steven normal on the school grounds.
He likes to take pictures of things. He likes school. Steve is going to show he cares for others. The book said, “I wanted to tell Jerry that I loved him.” (Myers 157).
Although Steven is going through a tough time in his life, I would consider Steven as a best friend. Steven could be a best friend because he is so thoughtful. In the story when he is sitting and talking with a cancer patient, Samantha, Steven gives her his favorite pair of drum sticks. This is a very thoughtful
Monster - Walter Dean Myers How would one feel to be on trail for something they did not do? In monster, by Walter Dean Myers, Steve Harmon is on trial for murder. Steve Harmon is a 16 year old who is wrongly accused of a crime he did not commit. If found guilty he can potentially serve 25 years to life in prison. He faces prejudice during his court case when there should only be hard cold facts.
He doesn’t think he fits in with the rest of the convicts, and writes in his journal on the first day, “I’m a good person”(Myers 59), almost like he’s convincing himself. Interestingly enough, despite asserting that he’s not a criminal, he isn’t prepared to lay bare the facts, neither in his diary, nor when
Steve is fighting with himself to figure out whether he is a monster. In Monster, Myers examines his idea of a monster through a court case. Firstly, Steve is fighting himself to try and find who he truly is. Disappointing, devastating, discriminating, the boy fights for his rights in front of the jury.
Steve is portrayed as a victim of a racist legal system that assumes his guilt based on his race and appearance. I can show this using this quote said by Steve's lawyer, “My job is to make sure the law works for you as well as against you, and to make you a human being in the eyes of the jury. ”(Walter Dean Myers) This quote shows how his lawyer sees how race could play a role in whether or not the jury decides whether or not he is guilty. The prosecutor and police officers involved in the case are all white, and they use racial stereotypes and assumptions to build their case against Steve.
Steve Harmons actions depicted his characteristics and we can, therefore, conclude that Steve Harmon is a liar as he lied under oath. Steve was also a guilt-ridden man ashamed of his actions. People who disagree may claim that Steve was undoubtedly innocent as Lorelle Henry, a witness, declared that there were only 2 people, proven to be James King and Bobo Evans, inside the store who eventually murdered Mr.Nesbitt. This may be a strong argument because it shows that Steve was not in the drugstore and could be really innocent. On the contrary, however, Steve’s job was just supposed to be a lookout and ensure that the drugstore was clear of cops or anyone inside.
He depends on others to bring clarity to his mind, such as saying, “What did I do?”. After the session at court was finished, Steve was insecure about what Ms. O’Brien, his lawyer, thinks of him. He writes an entry about it: “Who was Steve Harmon? I wanted to open my shirt and tell her to look into my heart to see who I was, who the real Steve Harmon”(92). During the trial, Ms. O’Brien stays distant from him.
Respectful Steve, caring and innocent, would not commit a crime of that nature. He was falsely accused and many people saw him
Friends or people you hang out with can influence your actions so if you hang out with bad people you're going to do bad things. Also, there just wasn’t enough proof to find him guilty so if there was more proof he would be found guilty because he said he was in the store in his journal. However, just because Steve is friends with bad people doesn’t mean he is a bad person. Therefore, Steve is a good person because he wants the world to be better. Mr. Sawicki was the film club director when Steve was in it and knows about his character.
Him being found not guilty was a good thing because all 12 people in the jury agreed that he didn’t do anything wrong. The jury decided that he didn’t deserve a punishment because he didn’t commit a crime during the robbery, so they said he isn’t guilty. However, just because Steve was found not guilty doesn’t mean he was innocent. Therefore, Steve was a monster. Steve was a monster because he always doubts himself.
