Walter Elias "Walt" Disney On the 5th of December in 1901, a soon to be legend was born: Walter Elias Disney. During his childhood he sold drawings, paintings, and pictures. When he and his family moved to Chicago where he attended McKinley High School, he took courses like drawing and photography. He later became the school’s cartoonist for their newspaper. After high school he went off to the Chicago Art Institute to further his education. At the age of 16, he dropped out of school only to be rejected by the army because he was underage. He was sent to France for a year to drive an ambulance when he joined the Red Cross. According to www.biography.com, Walt oved back to Kansas City to pursue a career as a newspaper artist.
