The war of 1812 is one to remember. The war happened between the British and the Americans. This happened because the British stopped trade with the Americans due to a war between the British and the French. Another reason was because of the impressment that the British started against the American sailors. For these reasons, the war of 1812 happened.
With Britain giving weapons to Native Americans a few years back and their continuation of impressing sailors, the American people demanded war. Eventually, the government gave in and declared war during the summer of 1812 which was pretty unfortunate for Britain as they were still fighting their war with France.

Jefferson wanted the Indians gone and wanted control of their land. The Indians didn’t want anything to do with the Americans and in fact they wanted to resist them with Britain’s support. Just 29 years after the American Revolutionary War, America and Great Britain were back to butting heads. This time it was not over the matter of independence, but over a cluster of reasons. Little by little, the British were starting to disturb the Americans. These reasons included British attempts to restrict U.S. trade, the Royal Navy’s impressment of American seamen and the arming of Native Americans. During the war, the Canadians sided with the British while the indians chose to fight on both sides. In the end, no-one won and the only ones who ended up losing where the Native American Indians.
It was basically the last major battle against Great Britain. A fact, before the war was fought a peace treaty was signed. The treaty of Ghent was signed on December 1814, but it did not reach the Americas until after the battle. The battle was not the reason why the war ended, but it was good for the US reputation. That Americans can function independently, and it enforced the idea of the US being able to hold their own.

The war of 1812 began because America got mad at Britain Because they started to impress american people to join their Royal Navy. It also started because of America’s desire for more territory. America didn’t like the fact the the British was coming over to America and just taking American people and forcing them to be in their Royal Navy. American troops tried to defend themselves in New York, Baltimore and New Orleans, and they were successful in doing so and it boosted National confidence and it fostered a new Spirit of Patriotism.

The trade restrictions that were the British Orders in Council and French Continental System not only challenged America’s neutrality stance but also the political parties’ economic and military stances in order to align with their overarching self-interests. The war waged by Madison against the British was welcomed by Democratic-Republicans concentrated in the South and West, and rejected by the dying Federalists in New England. Impressment is when you raid other ships and get whatever goods they have and force the crew into your navy. They took thousands of United States naval men into their army.
