Jeffrey L. Dahmer, after confessing immediately to numerous heinous murders over a ten-year period, was sentenced to fifteen consecutive life sentences in February 1992. In his trial, Dahmer declared to the judge, “This has never been a case of trying to get free. I didn’t ever want freedom. Frankly, I wanted death for myself Even though he admitted to murdering, dismembering, and cannibalizing seventeen men, and is known.” as one of the nation’s most notorious serial killers, Jeffrey Dahmer is not considered insane at the time of his crimes. Born in Milwaukee in 1960, Dahmer was a recluse. He never had many friends and he was a mediocre student. After graduating, Jeffrey joined the Army and served in Germany, but was discharged for …show more content…
His next victim was James Doxtator in January of the next year. James was fourteen, a Native American, and Dahmer lured him to his apartment by asking him to pose for nude photos. After he had sex with the boy, drugged him, strangled him and dismembered him, Jeffrey smashed his bones with a sledgehammer. He had two more victims after James, which he killed similarly. But then, in the spring of 1989, Dahmer was arrested for molesting a thirteen-year-old boy, and ended up in a one-year work-release program at the Milwaukee Community Correctional Center. Just after his work-release term ended, Jeffrey strangled Raymond Smith, who was thirty-two, and dismembered Edward Smith, who was twenty-seven. His killing streak went on and on; luring in mostly dark-skinned gays from bars; having sex with them; drugging them; beating them; strangling them; dismembering them. Dahmer killed ten men between September 1990 and July 1991. Finally, on July 22, Dahmer tried again with Tracy Edwards, who broke away, and found help. The police finally arrested Dahmer. Upon searching his apartment, the police found eleven human skulls, a full skeleton, packages of male genitals, preserved and frozen hearts, muscles and innards, and a blue barrel of acid for leftovers. After his arrest, Jeffrey confessed immediately to all of his crimes, “I carried it too far, that’s for sure,” Dahmer told the …show more content…
Dahmer was very bright; he knew how to get away with his killings: he chose more disposable victims. This is how he got away with murdering for as long as he did. No one noticed when homosexual minorities went missing. After his arrest, and even after Dahmer had done sixty-plus hours of confessing, he pleaded guilty but insane before the trial. Numerous psychiatric experts talked with and examined Dahmer, and all of them would testify that Dahmer knew right from wrong. Dahmer knew exactly what he was doing each time he killed, and he knew it was wrong. One psychiatrist alleged that Dahmer had proved his sanity by “remembering to reach for a condom” before copulating with his “dead corpses” or their dissected body parts (I Carried It 3). The psychiatrist testified that Dahmer’s capacity to delay gratification and his capacity for impulse control showed he could conform his conduct to social norms (I Carried It 3). Although this information seems true and logical, there were still some psychiatrists who disagreed and seemed to be defending Dahmer. One Italian-born psychiatrist, for example, explained his doubts that Dahmer had actually eaten any of his victims, despite evidence from Dahmer’s apartment, as well as, Dahmer’s confession to having “tenderized, sautéed, and sampled of the heart, biceps, and thigh muscles of several appealing victims out of curiosity”; the
He would murder his victims and often perform sexual acts with the corpses as well as dismember them and keep certain body parts. Dahmer developed these necrophiliac habits as a result of the tragic childhood he lived (Jamet, 2012). As a child, he would often kill small animals or go search for roadkill in his free time (Jamet, 2012). These habits contributed to the idea of having sexual relations with a corpse that Dahmer later developed. When Dahmer was tried he initially pleaded not guilty, although he had confessed to police already, but eventually pleaded guilty by insanity.
Dahmers modus operandi was to find single men, ask them to go home with him for the night, either to his grandmothers or his apartment depending on where he lived at the time, then usually ask them to pose for pornography for him, perform sexually, drug them, murder them, and then cut up the bodies for disposal. He was considered a necrophiliac, a cannibal, and was a convicted pedophile. Dahmer mainly targeted young men and boys between the ages of 14 and 33. Most of his victims were African Americans, as he once said he hated black people, but not all of them were. All of his killings were in Wisconsin, and one in Ohio, being his first ever murder.
Jeffrey Dahmer Jeffrey Dahmer is known throughout history to be one of the most infamous serial sex offender and murder of the 1970’s. Jeffrey is also referred to as the “Milwaukee Cannibal”, “between the years of 1978 and 1991 Dahmer raped, murdered, and dismembered seventeen boys and men” (Tithecott, 1997). Dahmer was very fascinated with the skeletal structure of his victims, he would preserve his later victims body parts along with taking part in necrophilic tendencies and cannibalism. Wisconsin is where Jeffrey grew up with both his parents and younger brother David, his “father was a chemical engineer and his mother suffered from hysteria, depression, suicidal ideation, and psychosomatic illnesses” (Tithecott, 1997) (in other words she strived for others attention). In Jeffrey’s mother’s effort to strive for others attention especially for her
Jeffery Dahmer was an American serial killer in the 80s Dahmer killed 17 young men over the course of 13 years. Jeffery Dahmer was a child who was neglected by his parents, due to his father working continuously and his mothers addiction to drugs; therefore, he felt like never received any affection from either of them. The only bonding he and his father had was dissecting roadkill in the garage, thus teaching his son skills to utilize on his victims. By the time he was 18, Dahmer was already struggling with his personal desires, his hidden homosexuality, and fantasy for murder; however, this fantasy did not become reality until June of 1978 when Dahmer picked up a hitchhiker named Steven Hicks and murdered him. Jeffery Dahmer, “the Milwaukee Cannibal” who was an American serial killer, murdered 17 and cannibalized some young men from 1978-1991; however He was caught in 1991 when one of his victims escaped.
Dahmer invited them inside without hesitation and offered no explanation as to why he had handcuffed the victim. While the officers looked throughout Jeffreys home, they found pictures of dead bodies, and then when the officer opened the refrigerator they found a severed head on the bottom shelf. The trial for Dahmer began in 1992 and he was tried for 15 counts of murder. He pled guilty however, they debated whether he suffered from either a personality disorder or mental disorder. Health professionals, diagnosed Dahmer with borderline personality disorder, sadistic traits, and obsessive compulsive.
After picking up hitchhiker Steven Hicks, Dahmer lured the youth into his home and bludgeoned him with a dumbell (Mendoza 1). Unfortunately, this killing was the first of many. After a brief stint moving to San Antonio, Jeff was forced to move in to his grandmother’s house back in Milwaukee where the murders continued. Dahmer had developed a masterful technique for murder, where he would pick up a partner at local gay bars, bring them back to his grandmother’s apartment, and then proceed to assault and murder his victims, often in sexually perverse ways. One of the survivors of these attacks, recalls that he saw a mattress stained with dried blood and a knife with a blue plastic handle, which immediately let him know that something was wrong (Mathews and Stevens, 44).
The gut-wrenching way Jeffrey Dahmer decided to kill his victims is what allows people to widely remember him today. Dahmer being so invested into the cannibalism aspect also shocked the world because that wasn't a thing many people had heard of. Although Dahmer managed to carry out 17 of these nauseating crimes they quickly came to an end. Finally on July 22, 1991 two Milwaukee police officers spotted a man running down the street with handcuffs dangling from his wrist. The officers stopped him, in a reckless manner the man explained that he escaped a ¨weird dude¨ who threatened to use a butcher knife and cut his heart out.(World of Criminal Justice…)
