Existing technologies for washing clothes do not work well in least developed rural areas. Shortage of electricity makes powered washing machines unfeasible. The parts of imported washing machines that might need for maintenance repairs are difficult to transport due to poor road conditions in remote areas.

The most important feature in the design of the machine is its ability to perform as a device that comforts the task of washing clothes. In order to be a possible solution in rural area, the machine should be able to convey the same quality of washing without adding excessive expenses in terms of water usage, clothing wear, and effort required to function, etc. Therefore the design and procedure of the machine should be based in the physics of clothes washing, with a special importance on the mechanical features, for example- water temperature and detergent composition are likely to differ. There are other secondary objectives with variable degrees of importance that could benefit make the machine more useful. Water savings can increase by doing fewer wash cycles with increase the ability to spin dry-off.
