1.2 Statement of Problem
At present, the majority of manufacturers establish the products with inefficient use of raw materials, energy, water, human resources, treatment, waste management, and so forth. Parfitt and his colleagues [24] have defined the definition of food losses into the decrease in edible food mass throughout the supply chain. Food losses will usually incurred at manufacturing, post harvest and distribution stages in the food supply chain. “Food losses” that occurred in the ending period of the supply chin will be absolutely transformed in to “food waste” which related to the intended consumers and consumers’ behavior [24]. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation [51], the third of food produced

The main questions are: to study the majority sources of the waste activities that emerge throughout the supply chain, the extent to which suppliers, manufacturing firms and retailers deal with these wastes in their supply chain, and the study of company’s characteristics that affect to strategy’s choice. The relevant theories will be mentioned in the next chapter.
1.4 Research Questions
Descriptive research asks the question what is the description. When undertaking this research the author needs to gain insight into and understanding of the identification and waste management in food industry supply chain. The author formed the following research questions:
1. Research Questions 1:
What are the causes of waste activity occurred throughout the supply chain in food industry?
2. Research Questions 2:
What are the strategies for waste minimization in manufacturing process in food industry throughout supply chain?
3. Research Question

All the waste can come from poor in infrastructure, transportation, improper storage, and disposal of product not meeting quality standard, improper sales, demand forecasts, and so forth. According to Wyman [60], the author states that retailers are one of the major causes that generate food waste accounted with 5%. Moreover, 61% of food waste comes from households’ level which is the high figure. From these researches, it obviously shows that the household is the main source of the food waste [48]. Nevertheless, the retailers, suppliers, and manufacturers are still in the position to help the household to reduce in food
As a result of searching the existing literature, the researcher was able to obtain data that correlated exceptionally well with the research topic. Indeed, the researcher gathered pertinent information from secondary sources; however, the primary sources of data were needed to draw a logical conclusion of the research at hand. So, the next step was major section III, Research Methodology. Being
Eating Towards Global Warming Global warming has been a topic of debate for many years now. A more recent argument is that food production is a key contributing factor to the global warming epidemic. In the article “A Carnivore’s Dilemma”, Nicolette Niman provides an insight to the logistics being said in these statements.

With that being said, most restaurants and grocery stores are declining industrialized foods, giving the name, “food-like substances.” Freedman feels that it is not a realistic way to stop this obesity epidemic by trying to persuade people into completely changing their habits of eating. Instead, Freedman believes that incorporating better ingredients in processed foods will
In the US, 40% of food produced, or approximately 365 million pounds of food, is wasted each day. Food waste, however, is a problem that extends beyond America, affecting billions of people as a global issue. The overwhelming amounts of food that are being discarded contribute to global warming and climate change, and prevent the massive number of hungry people from being able to eat nourishing meals. Humanity as a whole must be more mindful of the Earth and its health, as we are the source which most directly affect it. Due to the profound environmental impacts of food waste, a reduction in the amount disposed is necessary to create a more sustainable environment, and humans have a responsibility to protect the planet, even if it requires drastic changes to the current food system.
However it doesn’t have a large impact on the food industry as such as consumers need to purchase food in order to survive. Although they may decrease quantity of foods they choose to buy, they are still willing to purchase basic foods that will sustain their health. Consumers are more likely during an economic downfall to spend their money on foods they require rather than want. The company as a result obtains an advantage from its competitors as they produce long lasting food options, which allows consumer’s to save during tough times. This highlights an opportunity for the company as they produce healthier and simple food varieties which many customers desire.
The food industry has better improvements yet; it still needs a thorough cleansing. Although food production has bettered in the last 100 years by its treatment of workers and government’s oversight, it has had some adverse effects like company’s protection
$ 31 billion worth of food is trashed every year in Canada. We on average throw out 1 in 5 bags of groceries. Many commercial companies and our government are ignoring this problem while the rest of the world has started to take action. Behind a Walmart store there is roughly 12 bins of consumable food thrown out. Not into the compost but into the garbage.
Michael Pollan is the author of “Food Rules: An Eater’s Manual”. Throughout his career, Pollan has been investigating about the hazards that industrial foods pose to us, and how we can avoid them and replace them with a healthy diet. He believes that “The way we eats represents our most profound engagement with the natural world.” (Shetterly, Robert. “Michael Pollan.”
There can be numerous positive points for not wasting food which is described throughout the articles. Food is necessary because it helps a person nourish and grow. When all the wasted food goes to the garbage it gets ravaged and gets put in landfills. Even though, you cannot live without food it is not ok to have an excess amount of food. “U.S. throws away half of all food produce” By Suzanne Goldenberg, “How Norway is selling out-of-date food to help tackle waste” By Daniel Boffey and, “Ending world hunger by stopping food waste in the fields” By Bjorn Lomborg all analyze how food waste is not good for anyone or anybody.

In order for a business to find out their customers interests and thoughts about their business, they carry out the appropriate marketing research to ensure that the business has 100% customer satisfaction. In relation to Kellogg’s, they have carried out a number of market research, which has ultimately led them to becoming the leading cereal brand. The company has developed a range of products for the segments within this market, targeted at all age groups over three years old. This includes 39 brands of cereals as well as different types of cereal bars. Consumers of cereal products perceive Kellogg 's to be a high quality manufacturer.
In order to serve this purpose, the following research questions are
Chapter 2 Literature Review 2.1 Waste management in developing countries: The Integrated Sustainable Solid Waste Management (ISWM) Cities and towns in developing countries have for several decades been faced with a challenge of handling and managing solid waste adequately. The main reasons associated with these challenges have been mentioned as rapid urbanisation and growing populations in towns and cities which consequently led to increased generation of waste (Guerrero et al, 2013). The management of this solid waste by municipalities grew as a budget burden for each municipality due to the associated high management costs, lack of understanding of the diverse factors that affect waste management at different stages and the linkages that
Food security is one of the greatest problems faced the world. There is fact said that food is enough for everyone in the world but because of the great changes which happened rapidly in the world the rate of food become less than before and it is difficult to secure it. Food security is very important to ensure that everyone has enough to eat and families can build their communities without worrying about securing their live. To meet global needs, food production must be doubled in the next years in order to solve many issues such as: starvation, malnutrition and associated health. According to The World Food Summit of 1996 defined food security as existing “when all people at all times have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious food to maintain
