Water is essential to every living thing on our planet. However, in the next 10 years water shortages will be part of reality for everyone due to poor conservation efforts. Backflow preventers have already helped limit the pollution of potable water in communities, but more needs to be done. These backflow preventer are essential to conserving water, but communities need focus on other ways of limiting the pollution of waterways. Once water conservation gains more momentum, cloud seeding can be used as a means of reducing droughts and making the essential resource of water readily available to the rest of the world. The potable water is drawn in from a water source, which is defined as “a place from which water can be obtained”. The lakes, rivers, and ground water are all used as a water source by cities around the world. This means these sources need to be protected. Simple things such as throwing away trash will preserve the waterways and save the animals that call the water their home. Instead of the trash traveling down the storm drain and making its way to the waterways, the litter will be properly disposed of in a landfill or recycling plant. Despite disbelief, people commonly dump chemicals and toxins down storm drains too. Instead of disposing of chemicals the improper way, take hazardous material to a hazardous material drop off site near you. In fact disposing hazardous materials in storm drains is considered illegal. Lastly, one can conserve water by making small changes to their daily life. Some of these changes include washing your car on the grass to prevent the chemicals from contaminating water sources, or one can go to a car wash where the water is recycled. By making small efforts, you can help make the water in your city safer for
