The scandle affected Nixon because after the scandal, he delivered his resignated speech on August 9, 1974. As well as new laws that lead to extensive charges in campaigning financing. The 25th Amendment, ratified in 1967 states: “The Vice-President is the direct successor of the President, he or she becomes President if the President should die, resign or be removed from office”. The Amendment also requires that the Vice-President be confirmed by Congress.

Richard Nixon uses the appeals of logos in his speech that seem logical but all they do is mask the face of reality. In his speech Nixon states, “To leave office before my term is completed is abhorrent to every instinct in my body. But as president, I must put the interest of America first.” The harsh reality is, Nixon would’ve been impeached, so he decided to resign so he could exit his presidency and still have some pride left. Nixon also said, “I would’ve preferred to carry through to the finish…But the interest of the Nation must always come before any personal considerations.” Yes, Nixon may have preferred to finish his presidency, but he is only thinking of himself in this situation.

The men arrested would not speak of who sent them there but they were later traced back to Richard Nixon’s Committee to Re-Elect the President members. Nixon seemed to be in enough trouble, being moderately involved with this scandal, it was then known that the crooks had also been wiretapping the office and stole copies of top secret files. Although even to this day it is unknown if Nixon knew of the break-ins in the Watergate while it happened, it is fact that the President had sent hundreds of thousands of dollars in “hush-money” to the burglars to keep it out of the public eye. Nixon and his affiliates then began attempting to create the CIA to stop any further investigations of the FBI’s on the Watergate scandal (Staff). The former president continuously denied he was involved in the scandal, until the court ordered he handed over recordings that proved he attempted to redirect the fact-finding (“Richard”). President Nixon is one of the most famous Presidents in American history for being the first one to resign from office. While Nixon is famous for doing such an unthinkable act, he is also the one that gave one of the best and most well known speeches in political history, The Checkers Speech. The speech was given by (Senator at the time) President Nixon when he was running for Vice President on General Eisenhower’s Presidential ticket. A newspaper, the New York Post, had a front page with the headline "Secret Rich Men's Trust Fund Keeps Nixon in Style Far Beyond His Salary"; the article alleged that people were donating to a secret fund that Nixon had for his personal benefit in trade for political favors. This scandal caused many Americans and Republican politicians to push Eisenhower to remove Nixon as his running mate and to question Nixon’s integrity. In rebuttal to the scandal, Nixon took the bull by the horns and defended himself by going on live national television and addressed the nation by giving the famous Checkers speech. The soon to be Vice-President articulated his speech with a perfect combination of Pathos, Ethos, and Logos to turn the tables from making everyone hate him to making the American People and Republican Politicians love him.

In 1974 the house judiciary committee recommended Articles of impeachment of President Nixon during the water gates scandal. The water gates scandal was a major political scandal that occurred in the United States in the 1970s, following a break in at the DNC headquarters at water gate office in Washington D.C. and President Nixon’s administration tried to cover it up.

The Ohio National Guard came to Kent State University because the students there were holding an anti-war rally(PUBLISHED). The Ohio National Guard shot 13 students that day(PUBLISHED).

Article 3 of the Constitution grants the Supreme Court the power to review cases and declare a verdict. However, the Supreme Court is only allowed to make a decision regarding a case if and only it is brought to them. In other words, only cases that has been passed through the lower courts and has made its way up into the Supreme Court is the Supreme Court allowed to make a decision. From the founding of the constitution, many cases have made its way up the courts and into the Supreme Court where the Justices deliver the final verdict. Cases similar to that of Nixon vs. United States challenged the federal power of the President.

In general I would say Richard Nixon was a fairly decent president. During a time where there were many protests amongst the American public (especially the youth) against the troops in Vietnam, Nixon was able to pull the troops out of the war. Nixon also reduced the tensions with the Soviet Union, and helped China join the United Nations. He also helped decrease the amount of racial discrimination by segregating schools in the south. It is a shame though, that those achievements of his are not acknowledged because of the Watergate Scandal. Although it is debateable whether or not Nixon knew of the break-ins, he did behave very suspiciously.
