Abstract.
Many of commercial waterless hand sanitizers are available in locally markets. All those products often confirm that they are capable of killing 99.9 % of the microorganisms. The aim of this work was an evaluation of efficacy of waterless hand sanitizer produced by Dettol Company that is frequently market in Saudi Arabia. The aim also included an isolation of hand sanitizer resistant bacteria and study of their susceptibility to several of standard antibiotics. The standard washing method was used to disinfection of hands by the waterless hand sanitizer after that the microorganisms were isolated from hand surfaces. The information at the product confirm that the sanitizer kills 99.9 % of germs without water and its ingredients include alcohol denat., Aua, PEG/PPG-17/6 copolymer, propylene glycerol, acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, tetrahydroxypropyle ethylenediamine, partum and limonene.
Disinfection of hands and isolation One hundred students from collage of science, King Saud University volunteered to perform this work. Each student always uses an instant hand sanitizer for sterilizing his hand before and after his work in Laboratory. To isolate the sanitizer resistance microorganisms from hand, each student washed aseptically his hand by the instant hand sanitizer according to washing standard method. The washing standard method include six steps (enough the instant hand sanitizer was used to cover both hands, the hands together were rubbed "palm to palm", back of each hand were rubbed with palm of other hand, the sanitizer was spread over and under fingernails, the sanitizer between the fingers was spread and the hands were aseptically maintained until they were dry).
