One day at school, DaWayne Watson (Wayne) was walking through the hallway, wandering to his class. His next class was science and then after that he went out to recess. Science wasn’t that much interesting, part of the reason is the class was learning about animals which he had no interest in, whatsoever. Wayne is just about like every other person in his neighborhood: poor. At his house it’s only his papa, named DaShawn, and his little sister named Charlotte. They live in a poor city in Illinois. The bell rings and everyone runs out of the classroom. However though, Wayne was taking his time putting his stuff back into his accordian folder. “Hey! DaWayne, can you come over here for a second?” says Mrs. Carpenter. “Yes, Mrs. Carpenter. What’s up?” Mrs. Carpenter (his science teacher) handed him a test. “100%? A+? Wow! Th-that’s amazing.” Stuttered Wayne. That was his first ever A+. The closest he’s ever gotten was only a B. “Thank you so much!” shouted Wayne. “No, thank you. For both listening and studying.” Replied Mrs. Carpenter. The only reason why Wayne rarely gets A’s is because he is always home and taking car of Charlotte. Wayne stepped out of the classroom and walked to his locker. He solved his code and opened his locker. Without glasses, it was abnormally hard for him to focus. But to his surprise, nobody in his classes or even the teachers noticed. Wayne lived only about 2 miles from school, which wasn’t a lot considering the town he lived in. About 1 ½ miles into the trip back home, Wayne realized how mad his dad would be when he sees the glasses in 2 instead of 1. So Wayne wandered into the next alleyway he saw. What do I do first? Drew is a Mexican teenager who is an only child who faced many problems. His father and mother have a rough relationship that he is stuck in the middle of and he faces problems at school also. Drew has memories of his father beating his mother in front of him. He doesn’t know what to do and is scared for his families wellbeing. He has a friend named Sam that he spends a lot of his time with.
1) Uncle Hammer is Papa’s brother. He is also the uncle of the logan children. Uncle hammer has a gun and some anger issues (not a good combo). He wants to go talk sense into Mr.Simms for what she did to him, but Mr. Morrison talks him out of it. He has the same car as Mr. Granger, just a newer and more advanced model.
Duddy grew up in a household which had working class men. Through this, Duddy could observe the lifestyle they used to live, especially taking clear examples from his father, Max. Duddy's father supported his family by driving around his area night and day driving a taxi. Duddy had seen the life of an average income man, and through this he realizes this was not the life he wants to live. Although Duddy's character shows close ties with his family, the relationship that his father and him hold was also a reason for Duddy to dream big.

Mr. Clark was a great judge of character and because of that he knew what he had to do when he became in charge of the school. A bold move, but what he had done was expel all of the hoodlums and drug dealers and just the bad apples. He took all the kids who didn’t belong in that school and kicked them out. He believes in order for his students to do better he has to get rid of the negative influence. Further into the movie Mr. Clark decides to address his students before they go and take the state exam.
