Samantha (Sami) Weathersby Personal Statement
The arts have surrounded my life and family since I took my first breath. I experienced music, dance, storytelling, theatre, and visual arts immersion constantly, from the piano in our living room, to Mozart cassette tapes in the car, to pre-school church choirs. Early in life, I found that singing and dancing gave me a sense of pure joy and fulfillment distinctly unlike anything else. It provided freedom and catharsis and helped me escape real life. To this day, performance offers me that same joy and freedom, but it has been enhanced by the knowledge that I can help others escape their realities too. That empowerment has facilitated focus in my artistic pursuits and made them my life’s purpose.
As I grew, I began dance lessons, sang in more advanced choirs, and auditioned for community theatre shows, performing in my first musical around age seven. I found I loved Musical Theatre far more than any other art form, despite my young age preventing me from articulating this passion. I auditioned for as many shows as possible and faced rejection

I performed in every show I could, painted, did run-crew, made props, helped with costumes, ushered, watched as many shows as possible, and became intensely involved in my school’s Thespian Society, ultimately serving as Thespian Co-President. I took advantage of every opportunity, involving myself in around twenty-five shows between my freshman and senior years. I relished every minute of it. I lived in my school’s auditorium, but I would not trade those experiences for the world. Being involved in numerous shows, often simultaneously, my passion grew still further. I now feel ready to embark on a new journey in an intense, high-caliber B.F.A. Musical Theatre program. I have a great deal to learn, but I love to be challenged and I thirst for new knowledge and experiences to further my
“Music is present and an integral part of every life celebration: birthdays, holidays, funerals, Quinceañeras, you name it.” Having music around throughout her childhood got her interested in becoming a performer herself.
Despite my passion for athletics, I have spent the majority of my high school career involved in show choir. I participate in the Executive Session at Sauk Prairie High School. Show choir incorporates training under professional choreographers, undergoing numerous voice lessons, and traveling the country for competitions. This self-disciplinary activity pushes me to work hard and strive for perfectionism while taking leadership roles in a professional environment. Furthermore, show choir allows me to impact others through my performance and to take risks.
In the world of young entertainers, the market is often overrun with one-hit wonders and teens who decide to participate in risky behavior which results in negative press that sometimes propels them even further into the limelight. It is a rare thing in this fast-paced culture to see a young, unspoiled actress who truly has talent but has made the significant choice to keep herself grounded, but that is exactly who Ali Skovbye is. Her fame does not emanate from her wrongdoings, but instead she has built her reputation on humility, kindness, and crackerjack ability. Recently, I had the opportunity to ask her about her career as well as her Hallmark experiences, including “Once Upon a Christmas,” Gourmet Detective,” and “When Calls the Heart.” What was it that inspired you to become an actress?
From the moment the audaciously charismatic Rosemary LeVeaux paraded into what was then Coal Valley, I was fully enamored with the actress who created such a polarizing character. It seemed that either you liked Rosie, or you hated her; there was no in-between. As Pascale Hutton has continued with the cast, we have begun to witness the transformation of Rosemary, and from season two onward, I have declared Rosemary and Lee my most treasured couple. Pascale is truly one of my favorite actresses, and I was privileged to chat with her recently, and for me, it was a dream come true. (You should have heard the emotion and excitement that permeated my voice!)
I can now play notes higher than I ever could before the musical, leaving me with a hunger for more challenging music. I taught myself to play at fast tempos with little time to think about what I am playing. The latter musical lesson can be applied to life as well. Performing in the musical helped me learn to make decisions quickly. It was stressful at first, but with plenty of practice and not backing down, I was able to achieve my goal and be a part of a great show.
I will be performing in my fourth school play this upcoming spring, and will have my third choral concert. I’ve been an active part of Writer’s
Many people dream of performing on stage, being a part of brilliant performances and productions. I, on the other hand, dream of working behind the scenes, and of being a part of the team that makes these performances and productions possible. Music and the arts are my passion, and I plan to work in the management, promotion and advocacy of arts organizations both nationally and internationally. Pursuing an M.A./M.B.A. dual degree in Arts Administration at the University of Cincinnati is the next step for me to achieve my life goals.
The day started with waking up at six o’clock in the morning, donning my obnoxiously sparkly costume, and slicking my hair back into what was possibly the world’s tightest bun. I was going to a dance competition. Four years ago, when I began competitively dancing, I decided to perform a solo. Now, as I prepared to step out onto the stage, I was no longer so confident with my decision.
A person’s hobbies say a lot about them as an individual. It is a universal truth that the people you surround yourself with have a major impact in shaping who you are, and the people that coincide with your interests can either change your life for better or for worse. For the past six years of my life, I have been a part of the fine arts community through band. Being a part of the band program has shaped who I am today as a person in many ways. It is in all parts my identity, interest, and talent, and in three to four months out of the year, it is my life.
At a young age, I constantly wanted to express myself through music. I always found a way to incorporate music into my daily life, whether it be by blasting my favorite music, creating my own funky songs, or even having the opportunity to participate in my elementary school choir. My love for music actually took flight after I had decided to join my elementary school choir, however, in my opinion, it is not the most transformative moment in my life. After elementary
When I first walked into Freedom Middle School, there were a lot of clubs to choose from. I just couldn’t make up my mind. Then I caught sight of the orchestra room. It was full of interesting instruments, and enthusiastic hominids, like me, ready to learn. At first I assumed it was not the correct choice for me, but then I got a feel for it and realized how inspiring and life eventful it is.
“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything” (Plato). If my childhood was filled with anything: it was imagination. From my earliest memories of my cousin, and I putting on a sold out concert on my papaw’s front porch; to putting my baby dolls to sleep with lullabies. Music has always been a big part of my life: it was the one thing I could always count on, no matter where I went; and that still stands true today.
Students acquire training in building a strong basis in the performing craft and then getting to know how to follow those talents in the front of a digital camera, ultimately assembling an appearing reel of brief movies and scenes that they'll be capable of use in locating work. If students are interested in obtaining an education in acting for film, they are going to ended with their destination. Students who are interested in full time commitment might determine the four week or eight week acting for film workshop a fantastic introduction while those unable to make full time commitment should look into twelve week evening workshop.
