I found the weekly planner assignment to be enlightening because it showed my weekly progression for the goals I set at the beginning of the week and the roles that I embrace in a given week. This assignment has helped me with what I can do better to align my goals with my actions. These goals come from the roles that define me, so by increasing my chances of achieving my goals, I am also developing my various roles. Completing a weekly planner for two weeks has provided me an opportunity to be critical of how I spend my time and change it to be more complementary to my key roles. The first week of the assignment , I spent a lot of time practicing, helping teammates with their schoolwork, and studying for the LSAT. Although I found this week to be productive in terms of what I accomplished, some of the goals I set out at the beginning of the week I didn’t accomplish. Specifically, I wanted to make an effort to see my non-tennis friends. After joining the team last fall, I haven’t had as much time to hang out with my best friends, which has caused some strain in those friendships. After seeing the amount of time I spent on other things like watching TV and resting, I realize that I could have made a greater effort to spend time with friends. In the second week of the …show more content…
Specifically, eating lunch with my assistant coach, Michael, and studying with my friends at the library. Although I might not go out of my way to do these things, they are nonetheless important to me and have significant impacts on my fulfillment in life. Both of these activities have become a norm for my time here at Baylor and I know that they give me a sense of calmness and clarity when I have a lot going on. Overall, this assignment opened my eyes to things I can do better, but also showed me some things I should appreciate more in my
From 2011-2014, I led a South Asian Bible Study group in Chiang Mai, Thailand. In our group, we had members from different backgrounds and nationalities such as: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Thailand, England, and the US. During that time, we noticed that many Pakistani Christian families, who fled from Pakistan because of persecution and draconian blasphemy laws, were seeking asylum in Thailand. My team members and I invited the Christian refugee families in our Bible study group and tried to assist them, as much as we could, so they can adjust to their new surroundings. The English language skill was one of the barriers for Pakistani Christian refugees, because most of Thai tourism jobs require good communicative English language skills, even for a mediocre job.
As I end my sophomore year at Old Dominion University I think about all that I have accomplished in the past two years. I think about traveling to Peru and volunteering at an Hogar and Hospital as a Freshmen, Becoming Co-President of the Women’s ministry for ODU’s Catholic Campus Ministry, and to working hard and receiving good grades in all my classes. Not only do I think about all the work that I have done so far but I also think about my family and all the sacrifices they have made for me. I think about my parents waking up early every day to go to work just so we could have food on the table and a roof over our heads.
As I sit in the basement of the Lilly Library, surrounded by friends who have become family in a few short months, covered in calculus and EQ notes, and listening to some Duke Ellington jazz music for my Music 101 class, I can’t help but reflect on what this year has meant to me and my development as a student, athlete, brother, friend, and person. I entered Wabash College not exactly sure what to expect; I knew it was going to be different, but I also knew that with change I wanted to keep an open mind that was ready to learn and grow. Freshman tutorial and especially enduring questions are two classes that have pushed my boundaries as a person, forcing me to question core beliefs and ideas that seemed previously engrained in my mind. Throughout
My first out of class assignment was when I work the concession stand at Miami vs. Ohio game during Homecoming Weekend. My Fraternity usually like to give back to school in many ways and one of those ways are by doing concession stand during school games. This was my first time doing something like this because I’d just joined greek life, but my experience of doing it was actually fun and very good bonding experience with my Pledge Brothers. My assignment that day was to work the popcorn stand.t was a little stressful at first because I had just stayed up for 30 hours for “Keggs n’ Eggs”. Plus two hours before the game I was a fill-in at a Homecoming Parade for some of my pledge bro’s who couldn’t fulfill their duty to it.
There was a lot of foundation work being planted as I learned the terms, how to read drill, remembering counts, memorizing music, managing homework on long Tuesday night rehearsals and most importantly how to enjoy oneself in the midst of a struggle. This was just the first year! I met many new friends who built me up and made me a leader for the years to come.
I came back with a team that was craving a championships and a positive season because we were a good team this year and we all believed we could make it all the way as champions. Our soccer team overall record was 7-7-1, We achieved only one goal that year and that was to have a positive season but we didn't achieve our second goal which was to be champions. We could have been able to make it to the playoffs but we had students that were ineligible when we had crucial games to play and ended up losing those crucial games. If we had no players ineligible we would have achieved our second goal and possibly would have been champions of the Tri Valley league. Senior night which was our last game of the season we played against skyline which if you didn't know were the champions last year and killed us last year.
Fortunately, I have seen a lot of success with two school state championships and competing at the nation’s highest level for the club. But this year, having graduated the majority of our school team, we began the season without much collective experience or talent. As the team captain and only returning starter, I knew that leading the team would be a challenge. Previously, I only had to do my job, but now, my maximum effort and personal commitment to perfection were necessary for our team’s success. My integrity on the court in practice and games had to grow this season, and I am incredibly grateful for this team that is so different from others on which I have played.
The Chapel has been a place for prayer and where I find peace. I am looking forward to the second half of the semester. I am striving to be the best student I can be and making the best out of these four years so that I can be the best candidate in the application pool when applying for jobs. Success and failure are part of the learning experience, but at the end of the day, they have been learning
Week 9 Chapter 12 focuses on planning before the class. The author mentions that planning can remind teachers what they intend to do during the class, and it is also helpful for class observation. Although class planning is important, sometimes things do not always on the right track. Therefore, teachers have to be flexible and change the plan accordingly. The aim of the plan is to have coherence and variety.
The long-term behavioral goal that I wish to focus on for this assignment is to do physical exercise five-days a week. Regular physical exercise would help me maintain a healthy weight, reduce my risk of heart attack and stroke, improve my mood and well-being, and is an important factor for a long and healthy life. The first technique that I practiced was time management. I have a busy schedule which involves a constant balance of attending classes, doing homework, going to work, doing church callings, and participating in extracurricular activities.
One being, learning how to manage my time. There were weeks where we would have school all day, then practice till five, then a basketball game at six. It was extremely hard to study, cheer, work, and somehow have a social life. These situations helped me plan ahead to when I was going to finish homework or study for my upcoming tests. I will use this useful skill in college next year where i'll find myself always looking for time that I don't have.
That is, how did you go about addressing the assignment and what did you learn from it? I really liked the idea of this assignment as a “work on your own” type. There was no written assignment or discussion board associated with it, so I had no pressure and could really just enjoy the readings and videos for my own benefit. The provided information made me think about myself and other leaders that I had experience working with.
The season started out like any other, one week of pain staking agony and push-ups. The constant workouts, sweat, and two hour practices were completely worth the outcome of my last volleyball season. The past four years of my high school career I spent being a member of the volleyball team. But to me, this is not just a team, this is my family.
Growing up, I spent most of my time playing sports and trying to stay active as much as possible. As I got older, I became more serious with field hockey, and I was determined to make the varsity team my junior year of high school. All summer I spent working on my stick skills on the field, and my endurance in the gym in order to do everything I could to make the varsity squad. When tryouts started in the end of August, I hadn’t performed the way I wanted to, and girls I thought had no chance of making the team, played so well over the three days. However, I was hopeful I still had a shot on the varsity roster.
The members played a big part in this personal growth of mine, as well. I was shocked when random community members would come up to me to congratulate me on a win or ask how the teams are looking. It was important for me to be assured that they care about the things I was doing. These small conversations felt like an invitation for me to start and hold meaningful conversations with adults. Some of the greatest lessons that I have taken from high school are lessons that have nothing to do with the curriculum.
