My personal characteristics, experiences, and professional and personal goals both align with those promoted by the National Academy of Kinesiology and will greatly contribute to my success in the field of kinesiology and ultimately, as a physical therapist. Some of my most prominent characteristics include my compassion, empathy, and caring nature. Charlie Gordon's doctors did not act ethically when they performed the surgery to make him smarter. Although these controversial statements with the doctor's unethical treatment of the patients in Flowers for Algernon, I believe that the doctors did the right thing with the patient and acted in the well-being of the patient. Charlie Gordon's doctors acted ethically when they performed the surgery to make him smarter. In real life doctor's have to make these same decisions today. In the case of Donald (Dax) Cowart, one can determine that the conflict is between Beneficence and Autonomy. The doctors were morally right in choosing to treat Donald despite his autonomy by using the principle of beneficence. Firstly, doctors entire training is about how to save lives, so in a sense it is something they are morally obligated to do. Patients go to hospital in the hopes of being treated. But in Donald’s case it was the total opposite.
I have always, like my dad, wanted to major in something in the medical field. Another reason why I want to become a nurse practitioner is that I have always had a passion about helping others. With this job I can communicate with the patients in their times of intense physical and mental sufferings. For example, If my patients are scared of getting a surgery, I could educate them that surgery is not always a bad choice. I would explain the procedure of the operation in a way that they could fully comprehend.
Doctors take care of patients to make this world a healthier place- but that’s not all. Doctors are the necessary catalysts for change and order. They show the world what must be changed through new medical treatments, patient care, and more. Without them, there would be no difference between someone who wants to make a change versus one that actually does make a change. This part of the health field was something I was exposed to at a young age.
My high school courses consist of advanced placement courses and courses that are geared towards my interests.
