Sports play an imperative role in socio-economic development in Fiji as whole. However, the sport industry is so huge and sundry, that almost anybody can pursue a career in it, regardless of their athletic ability. Furthermore, governments are putting more initiative in sport, after a win in Rio Olympic by making a brand new South Pacific Sports Institute in future (Ali, 2016). Sport occupations are more beneficial in terms of social development, economic development and health benefits. Therefore, sports are a good source of both exercise and entertainment. Hence, this essay will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of treating sports as an occupation. To begin with, one of the main disadvantages of choosing a career in sports occupation is health risk including injuries and high pressure. Athletes put their body’s line while playing games and eventually they get fragile with all the injuries they sustain from playing. Evidently, sports serve as an excellent physical exercise such as running, jumping, stretching, and moving, which helps improve fitness and good for mind, body and spiri (Sports and Health, 2015)t. Likewise, sports helps strengthens bones, muscles, and increase stamina and endurance. Sports, which involve running, kicking, throwing helps strengthen the arms and legs, while swimming provides full body work out. However, sports also encourage healthy decisions such as not drinking and smoking and offer health benefits such as lowers a chance of getting osteoporosis and breast cancer. Also, put sports player on proper diet through healthy eating practices such as lean diet.
