In India higher education is imparted after the ten years of primary and secondary education followed by two years of higher secondary education. The Bachelor's degrees is obtained after three years study in the case of liberal arts and four years in the case of most professional degrees other than medical and law whose duration is four and half five/six years respectively. The Master's program is usually of two years duration. The research degrees like Ph.D and M.Phil take time depending upon the individual student. In addition to the degree programs, diploma and certificate programs ranging from poetics to computers are also available in the universities. • Leveraging surplus land of existing institutions to new institutions on rent which will be cost effective and will provide a wholesome environment for students.
• The ideal solution to curb the demand supply gap is to make online education play an important role in mainstream. There is dire need for rapidly scaling up Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) as they are capable of solving two of India’s most pressing problems of access and quality. Gadgets like Kindle can be distributed to reach out the various sections of society. It will create a wholesome network of globally educated students.
• A for-profit model of educational institutions should be adapted which will increase the competition between the institutions which will ultimately result in increase in quality of education.
• Scheme of ad hoc employment of faculty should be adopted to overcome the shortage of faculty in institutions.
• Flexible structure of courses should be brought into the enrollment programmes and syllabus and teaching methods should be amended on the global education
