Pets are great animals that provide many health and social benefits. Studies show that when pets are present, a person’s anxiety and depression reduce. A pet could decrease feelings of loneliness and give you a safe feeling. The fact is that companion animals of all kinds: dogs, cats, rabbits, fish, or hamsters, enrich our lives. Nearly 50 percent of respondents in a survey done by the American Veterinary Association considered their pets to be companions and only 2 percent thought of them as property. There are many great benefits of owning a pet such as health and social outcomes. If you do not have a pet, you are missing out. Effortlessly, pets manage to bring so much joy into our lives. One report said that the total for the first year of owning a dog could be at least $1,270 and $1,070 for a cat. This depends on the food and medical bills. Many people also have allergies to animals. About one-third of the population is allergic to either cats or dogs. Owning a pet also requires regular cleaning and feeding. There are also many sanitary risks associated with pet ownership. Animals can carry parasites that can be transferred to humans. Cats in particular carry a parasite known as Toxoplasma gondii, this can get into your brain causing a condition called toxoplasmosis. People that have weak immune systems are very vulnerable to this. Puppies may be cute, but if they aren’t potty-trained, then you have a real problem.
