The 21st century is the age of technology and our world is surrounded by technology. People around the world can bombarded by all sorts of technological devices. From the moment we wake up, we experience the effects of technology, our clocks, our beds and even our coffee maker have some sort of technology embedded into their design. The importance of technology in the classroom goes past digital literacy: it endorses workplace soft skills like critical thinking, independent research, and cross-technology proficiency and adapts children to the real world, where technology is everywhere. While technology and internet have proven that it benefits children in classroom, there are some major drawbacks with it comes to technology and internet in the room. One disadvantages of technology is that it distracts children from their school work. “The concern that students will be too busy tweeting and Snapchatting to pay attention to the lesson. Students’ innate curiosity, coupled with their tech savvy could lead to more online socializing in environments where devices are easily accessible.” (Ronan, 2017) Social media is a major distraction in the classroom because students are focused on what they posting and worried about their online profile rather than focusing on their school work.
