America has a long history of event as the 240 year old republic has had 44 (soon to be 45) presidents of the federal republic. Over the course of time, there has been bad presidents and good presidents, but three presidents are iconic and stand out to the rest-George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Thomas Jefferson. Which one of these three presidents are the greatest?
Thomas Jefferson may not be as famous as Washington, but his contributions to early America was huge. Thomas Jefferson is the author of the Declaration of Independence, the document that essently began America. Jefferson's contributions go beyond that, as he served as the first governer of Virginia, and the first Secretary of State. Eventually he rose up the ranks and became the Vice President of the United States, and afterwards became the President of the United States.
One notable thing about Jefferson is the Lousiana Purchase from France. This expanded America greatly, and eventually he sent two explorers named Lewis and Clark to explore these new lands. He wanted to expand the newly born United States, and in sound so he has Lewis lead an expedition to the new Louisiana Territory. He also wanted Lewis to travel to the Missouri River and find a passageway to the Pacific Ocean. If they were to find a passageway, they would be able to gather silk and spices from Asia, which has been a wanted thing since the time of Columbus. He also wanted a good relationship with the Indians to the west of them. Jefferson’s election in 1800 marked the first peaceful transfer of power between political parties in U.S. history. This showed that the country could transition power without getting into violence or conflict. Jefferson believed in limited government and states rights, which means that he thought the federal government should have less power and the states should have more. Jefferson's purchase of the Louisiana land in 1803 doubled the size of the United States and expanded executive power by allowing the President to make large land purchases without approval from Congress.

In Undaunted Courage, Stephen Ambrose explains that Jefferson was important to the expansion west. “He sought greatness for himself and for his nation,” this enunciates that Jefferson would do anything thing to help his nation. In “Reporting to the President, September 23-December 31,1806,” Stephen Ambrose says “On that point, Lewis had carried out Jefferson’s orders exactly,” this shows that Jefferson pick the right person for the job to explore the west. Jefferson was important to the exploration west because he made sure everything he could do to ameliorate his country was achieved.
Thomas Jefferson has also done and changed the country during his presidency. One commodity changed of the country, and possibly the largest, was Thomas Jefferson’s Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase was an outstanding change to the country, this is because it nearly doubled the size of the United States. This also encouraged independence and agrarianism because with the immense amount of new land supposedly every man could have a small farm. The purchase allowed men to become more independent because they could grow their own crop and be self sustaining.
His ideas significantly contributed to the American Enlightenment because for the first time in American history, we had freedom and liberty. Jefferson wrote the ground-works for our

All three were strong-willed patriots that wanted to make a difference and to see America prosper as an independent nation. Thomas Jefferson was the principle author of the declaration of independence. jefferson appointment to the committee of five formed to draft a declaration of independence in furtherance of the lee resolution passed by the congress, which declared the united colonies independent. Thomas Jefferson was important to the Louisiana purchase because he had authorized livingston only to purchase New Orleans . Of Thomas Jefferson’s triumphs, his advancement of personal rights has had the greatest effect on modern day America. Without his enlightenment ideas and push for the Bill of Rights, the United States would not be the same amazing country that exists today. God bless
The greatest president that has ever served the United States is George Washington. He was not only the first president of the United States but also the commander in chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He was victorious over the British and quickly became a hero doing so. He helped draft the constitution and with his leadership and courage. As first president, he become a role model for every other present succeeding him and helped create our countries values that we cherish so much today.
George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and James Monroe were the first five presidents of the United States and the people who led America to success during a time of great conflict. These presidents helped shape America into what it is today. Without their problems during their presidencies and then solving them, no one knows where America would be. For example, why did President Madison go to war, in 1812, unlike all of the previous and future presidents. Washington wanted to stay neutral during his presidency, so he completely avoided war with foreign countries.
Thomas Jefferson during his time in office faced many challenges with the new country. One major challenge and one of the biggest accomplishments during his presidency was the Louisiana Purchase. This turned out to be a huge issue for Jefferson because of the ordeals and the way he wanted to run the government. This was a major conflict in interest for Jefferson because he was a strict constitutionalist and followed it word for word. In the end what he did was completely overstep his powers as president doing what he feared would happen by purchasing the Louisiana territory without any approval from congress for 15 million dollars.
