Although withdrawn and hidden away among lush palm frond greenery along the western coastline of Ceylon, it is surprising to find so many reviews on this little known beach side budget Hotel sitting about half an hour’s southward drive away from Colombo City Centre.

“Amazingly good for a budget hotel” comments an enthusiastic visitor through Trip Advisor and another leaves behind a message in Agoda saying “This is a lovely hotel for people who want something nice but not quite as upscale as the Mount Lavinia Hotel. The swimming pool is large and attractive, the buffet breakfast is pretty good, the rooms are quite nice, and the beach is just across the railway tracks. The hotel is more informal and accessible than fancier hotels, while providing a comfortable stay.”

Hotel Berjaya consists of three floors and everyone seems to agree that the rooms at the highest are the best, offering the most captivatingly panoramic view of the virgin sandy …show more content…

It is close to the beach, at easy reach to main road and also the capital. If you rather prefer food from outside, a KFC and a Burger King is quite nearby. You can visit all architectural sites that belong to Portuguese and Dutch Colonial era by hiring a Tuktuk for a reasonable price. National Zoological gardens are only few miles away. The most favorite fun event is the Elephant Show in the evenings.

Guests have repeatedly complained about the management of the place and were critical about the ‘oldness’ of some rooms. But nearly everyone took the trouble to add ‘yet-it-can-be-improved’ feeling at the conclusion. But it should be noted that this out of date things were largely reported during 2013. Hotel Berjaya underwent lot of refurbishing and restructuring during that year. So it is very much improved now. Yet there still can be ‘things left to be improved’
