There are several symbols in the book To Kill a Mockingbird, but one symbol that stands out the most is the mockingbird. The mockingbird is considered a symbol for a number of reasons. One reason is by hurting the innocent whether it be killing them or accusing them of something they never did. Mockingbirds are birds that do no harm to their community and yet they still get killed. Atticus states “shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit ‘em, but remember a sin to kill mockingbirds” (Lee 119). People will do anything including hurting the innocent if it means it will benefit them in return. Another reason is when a child loses their innocence. During the early stages of being a kid, they are innocent and naïve to the world. When it means
The poet, Lascelles Abercrombie once said, “There is only one thing which can master the perplexed stuff of epic material into unity; and that is, an ability to see in particular human experience some significant symbolism of man 's general destiny.”. He talked about how powerful of a tool symbolism is and how it is the only thing that can truly define a highly complex ‘destiny’ or series of events. Symbolism is something that is found throughout Harper Lee’s book, To Kill a Mockingbird. Lee shows the reader that racism is a product of society, she portrays the matter through her symbolism of the mad dog, the birds and the bugs.
The Emblem of the Mockingbird Mockingbirds are birds known for their kindness and innocence and they can learn hundreds of songs throughout their lifetime. The green hat that Emma wears symbolizes the constant envy she feels towards the peaceful people she comes in contact with. Emma is at a fair and seeing the people that are happier than she is, envious feelings swell up inside her.
Numerous ideas are portrayed in Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird” and my symbol represents the idea that has affected me the greatest. This particular idea is based around gender inequality and discrimination; which is still a major issue today. ‘Females are taught from a young age that women are inferior to men and are expected to act a certain way’ is the idea reflected by my symbol. The colour differences of the weights (pink and blue) stereotypically represent the different genders.

They don’t eat peoples gardens, or nest in corncribs, making them one in many of birds that don’t cause grief or any type of annoyance to the people of Maycomb. Mockingbirds are seen by the majority of the characters in the book as innocent creatures. It is wrong to kill them because they don’t hurt anyone. Some of the characters in the book resemble mockingbirds, carrying some of the same statures given to this influential symbol.

In the novel “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins, there are many memorable symbols used. One of these symbols is the Mockingjay. The reason this symbol is important is that it helps the reader to understand some of the main ideas of the novel. Suzanne Collins wants the reader to think about the Mockingjay. The Mockingjay in “The Hunger Games” is a symbol used as a representative of the rebellion, this is so, because, many years ago in Panem, the Capitol breed these birds, called Jabberjays, specifically to spy on rebellions and find out what their plans were, the Capitol were able to do this through the usage of these birds as they were able to pick up what people said, and replicate the words said precisely.

Shoot all the blue jays you want, if you can hit them, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird” (Lee119). Atticus is explaining to Scout to not kill the mockingbird because it’s a sin.
