Early Life Theodore Roosevelt had a very extensive and interesting like before becoming one of the most well revered presidents in United States History. He was born on October 27, 1858. He was the second of four children and grew up in New York City. As a child, he was affected by asthma. “As a teenager, he decided that he would "make his body," and he undertook a program of gymnastics and weight-lifting, which helped him develop a rugged physique” (Milkis, n.d.). However, in September 1901, McKinley was assassinated. This event caused Roosevelt to be the twenty-sixth President. He was the youngest person to serve as the President of the United States of America. The nation would greatly benefit from his presidential skills. He would leave a legacy behind as one of the greatest presidents in United States history. “Roosevelt's tenure as President was not unlike the rest of his political career; he was a true Progressive and reformer” (SparkNotes Editors, n.d.). Sparknotes Editors (n.d.) said that Roosevelt focused on balancing the interests of monopolies and organized labors. During Roosevelt’s presidency, he had won a Nobel Prize for peace in 1906 for mediating an end to the Russo-Japanese War. Roosevelt also occupied and set up a military in Cuba, when he also was putting pressure on Canada in the boundary dispute for Alaska. What Roosevelt did during his presidency shows that any man or any woman can do anything they want, it’s showing that he was doing things that were helping the country as a whole. Pringle isn’t exactly a fan of Roosevelt throughout the book has a tone of skeptical and critical. Other authors talk about how great Roosevelt is, but Pringle decided to do the opposite and talk mostly about his weaknesses. Pringle never bought into the popularity of Theodore Roosevelt’s greatness, but his disapproval becomes less strict as the book goes on, and just become though-provoking. There is very little talk about Theodore’s family, and he very briefly talks about his life in the Dakotas, his early career in Washington and New York, his “Rough Rider” campaign, or his travels through Africa and South America. The book’s main focus is about Roosevelt’s political career rather than the adventures and fun things Roosevelt did.
By believing in this power he was able to make transformations in the federal government which are still useful today and many people are happy because of his works. There are two major ways that Theodore Roosevelt transformed the role and responsibility of the federal government. The first transformation made was the reservation of the natural resources which were being abused and used to benefit only few people. Roosevelt was known as the president responsible for making America a power and through the use of Progressivism, he made several decisions that made America what it needed to be. Roosevelt's main accomplishments through the use of progressivism is that he took on the captains of industry and argued for greater government control over the economy, pursuing a two-pronged strategy of anti-trust prosecutions and regulatory control.
Theodore Roosevelt was a visionary and a great leader. Roosevelt had strong convictions that he applied to his leadership of this nation, and held all of our nation’s values in high esteem. Among many of Theodore’s pursuits, he was an avid conservationist. He wanted to ensure that the beauty and resources of the United States remained intact for every generation to walk on its soil. Many of the national parks we enjoy and the reserves our wildlife inhabit are all products of Roosevelt’s efforts.
Although Theodore Roosevelt was not the most committed politician before becoming president he had many hardships throughout his lifetime and believed that taking on different jobs could make him a smarter and better politician to help him to reach higher and more important jobs in the government. Prior to losing the election of 1912, he helped the U.S with by doing anything he could to uphold America and its citizens. He also aided in American access to the Panama Canal. On economical terms, Roosevelt was the trust-buster, breaking all of the bad trusts in big businesses. He also was the president who enforced the Sherman Antitrust Act. Socially, he preserved millions of acres of land, entitling citizens to interact and have leisure time, and wildlife to prosper.
Theodore Roosevelt was considered one of the best presidents of the United States of America. Theodore Roosevelt served as president from 1901 to 1909 which is also known as the Progressive Era. President Roosevelt mad many successful and failed efforts in reforming America. Roosevelt's successful efforts included the Square Deal, the Sherman Antitrust Act, and the 1902 Coal Strike. Another successful act passed by Theodore Roosevelt included the National Reclamation Act of 1902, which provided irrigation to drylands in the Western United States that were funded by the government.
