Firearm-related suicides and those associated with handguns have as well escalated since 2012 (Rossi 121). The crime rate related to guns is 25 times higher in America compared to other high-income countries. In comparison to cost, gun-related violence costs the taxpayers at least $516 million in hospitalization. Amid this crisis, America can enforce several methods that will restrict the use of guns by malicious people. One of the solutions to this problem is constraining youth from using guns.
However, for the state with the highest rate of gun ownership, the firearm suicides rate out of all suicides is more than 64.3%. This shows that with gun around, people’s suicide rate will increase as it is much more easy for them to kill themselves. It is not hard to believe as what you need to do is pull the trigger and you will die. According to David Hemenway, a Harvard University 's School of Public Health’s professor, “Many suicides are impulsive, and the urge to die fades away.” Strengthen gun control can reduce the immediate wish for the death of people. Maybe they can go to the professionals and receive therapy to try to have a new life.
On average, 12,000 US citizens get murdered through homocides alone yearly. Not only is this number alarming, but the availability of guns in the United States is dangerous as well. When inmates from several prisons were asked where they obtained guns, they had many mixed answers that can be distressing to the safety of citizens. Overall, the survey showed that 56% of inmates paid for their guns (legally or ilegally), 15% claimed that the gun was a gift, 8% had a trade deal for the gun and 5% claimed that they had stolen the gun. Only 8% of America's 124,000 legal gun dealers have sold guns that have participated in crimes.
- 33,000 people in the United States died from gunshot injuries and more than 84,000 survived with such injuries” (Malina, Morrissey, Campion, Hamel, Drazen, Paragraph 3, Page 1) To paraphrase, the evidence states that the current checks on the shooter did not make his purchase of a gun unavailable. In a better check, he would not have been able to obtain a gun from dealers. Due to guns, more than thousands of innocent citizens were killed and over and almost a hundred thousand more were injured due to guns in one year. That means that thousands of people die and are wounded just because of guns. This is very unusual, as guns in America are used to protect people, but these guns are more commonly used to kill other people.
There have been so many gun incidents in the this world ours , we still don’t have a type of law for gun control policies, and there should be. There are about 100,000 Americans killed each year by guns. If the Congress could just lay some type of control on guns right now, we can save many lives from being in danger, stop all the school shootings, and have a better, more safe life. Gun policies can help lower crime rate and stop children and irresponsible adults from getting guns. Having a gun control laws can help save more lives in this world and stop having families suffer in pain because a mental man had killed a member that belongs to their family.
Tragedies like these spark the debate of gun control, should guns be regulated by the government and to what extent? 30,000 American lives are lost each year due to guns, estimated by Barack Obama. 30,000 lives are ended with guns, this doesn’t include the families and friends affected by such occurrences. There has been a rise in the death toll of mass shootings and the frequency of them, the deadliest only occurred last year. In 2018, there have been twenty nine mass shootings alone (Gun Violence Archive).
Many accidental deaths happen each year by guns in the hands of people who do not know gun safety. People are concerned that the amount of guns available have allowed gun violence to run rampant throughout the United States. An estimation of the amount of people in the U.S. shot each year is staggering, “The Brady Campaign to Prevent Violence estimates that around 144,994 people are shot each year in the U.S.” (8 Facts). This data shows that thousands each year are shot in the United States, which includes the deaths of those killed each year. According to the supporters of more age restrictions, the new laws will take some of the guns off the streets and decrease the amount of gun
33,000 people are killed in gun related incidents, in United States of America alone every year. This is a very staggering statistic knowing that the U.S. is only one country out of the 195 countries in the world today. This is due to several reasons. Shootings are becoming more and more common, guns are getting easier and easier to find, but most of all, the second amendment has reigned supreme in gun laws ever since the founding of America in 1776. Some believe that this is a terrible amendment to have our country live by, this group supports enforcing gun laws or even abolishing guns all together.
Gun Control Gun control is defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary as the regulation of selling, owning, and use of guns. Gun control has been a very controversial topic on Capitol Hill for a long time. Although, within more recent decades gun control has been a more heated topic of discussion. This is due to higher gun related death rates and an uprise of mass killings such as the Columbine highschool massacre which left 23 injured and 15 killed (CNN Library) and the recent Las Vegas shooting which left 58 killed and nearly 500 injured (Gomez and White). Gun control activist heavily support the controlling of firearms while Gun rights activist oppose heavy regulation.
In 2017 alone, approximately 16,000 people were killed by firearms in the United States, a three percent increase from last year (Wolf). Gun control in the United States has been an issue for many years regarding the most logical way to make guns less of the threat to civilians. Many argue for a complete ban on any and all guns while many others believe in stricter regulations and background checks to ensure only those who should have a gun can get one. The issue of gun control in the United States should be addressed in a way that will actually see change as well as keep people safe. While gun control has little noticeable benefits, there are some points to mention.
People suggest that gun violence is rising because of gang violence and copycat shooter. The government put effort on controlling gun violence but that not enough. Mass shooting has triple since 2011, making drive by shooting more frequent with copycat shooter.
Ready, Aim, Fire Through the past several years, the United States has experienced many different events changing the way people look at the world. Through this same time, it seems as if there has been an increase in the death toll to the lives of American citizens. From the bombing of the World Trade Center in 2001, to the Sandy Hook Shooting, the rate of mass killings in the U.S. looks to be at an all time high. President Obama and many other politicians believe that the answer to stopping all of these acts of terrorism is the further restriction of firearms in the country. The fact of the matter is, the further implication of restrictions to the right to keep and bear arms is not the key to stopping these mass murders.
Secondly, gun massacres are usually committed with legal weapons which makes people believe those could be prevented with stricter laws. Every day 48 children and teenagers get shot, including suicide attempts and unintentional shootings. From this number, seven members of the youth wont survive every single day (1). Considering a whole year, this makes way over 2,500 children and teenager who die from gun violence. Looking on all ages, roughly 32,500 people die every year in America, about 76,000 get shot but survive.
One article online states that gun related violence accounts for about 30,000 to 40,000 deaths every year in America. More than half of these deaths occur due to self infliction (Keidan 48). This makes it obvious that there should be a certain amount of gun laws in place to stop people from hurting each other. However, people commonly have to use guns for self defense. One such example of this happened when four masked men went into a smoke shop.
Gun violence in America has been alarmingly increasing since the 90s and has continued throughout the years. Although guns may save lives, evidence shows that most guns in America are stolen from other thieves and misused. Due to lack of gun control found in nearly fifty percent of the states, guns are mostly misused for other reasons. Since 2012, there have been gun sales spiking across the U.S. Every year, America’s minimum increase in gun sales is five percent. The American government should raise gun laws to reduce gun violence, which leads to death.
