My academic advisor is Jessica Duhon. Nope, she wouldn’t be working with me until I graduate. It’s depends on case by case. Yes, I do know where her office is; it’s in JSAC 2227. I did meet her once for to add courses in first week. I plan to make an appointment with her again to find my major and about the courses soon. Her role is to help the students for the course registration, academic planning, and major interests/declaration.
I began my undergraduate education at Colorado State University in 2004. I declared my major as Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. At this point in my life, I had no clue what I wanted to do for my career and thought this would be the best option and give me the most diversity of career options. Going into my sophomore year, I began a job in the emergency department at the hospital located in the college town. During my first day, I got to see a variety of emergent and non-emergent medical procedures. The level of care that the varying healthcare professionals provided to these patients was fascinating and became intrigued to a career path in the medical field. Over the next couple of years, I narrowed the possibility
I was born in South America, Guyana in a family that consists of seven girls. In the summer of 1990, my family moved from Guyana to South Beach Miami, Florida. Unbeknown to me I was in one of the world’s liveliest areas renowned for fashion. I was intrigued to find so many people excited about their hair, clothes, makeup, shoes, jewelry, nails, and body types. I grew up in a very diverse neighborhood. Growing up we didn’t have much money as a family but my parents would always make sure we had clothes on our back. Two years later my family moved from Florida to Brooklyn, New York to be closer to relatives and other family members. Brooklyn is where I begin to design clothes at 14 and learned about marketing of different brands of appeal. I have always had a keen eye for fashion, the older I became the more aware I was of the need for affordable, stylish and comfortable clothing. I enlisted into the U.S. ARMY March 2005, to better myself and earn money for fashion school. Being a veteran and doing three deployments has given me a totally
University of North Dakota is a perfect fit for me. I have always dreamed of getting my Master in Public Administration, and now my dream could come true. I aspire for big things, not just for the future, but for right now. I want to make a difference for my community and for this world. I know there are steps in this process, but I will do whatever it takes for me to get there. I am interested in the University of North Dakota because I love the state. I have family and friends in the state and my fiancée and I are considering moving to North Dakota in the future. North Dakota is becoming more of a place for opportunity and I would love to jump on the bandwagon.
Getting asked “What school do you go to?” I answer, “North Cape”. They then look with a confused smirk and ask “Where’s that?”
Career Goals: Describe what your Career Goals are and how you plan to use this experience to further those Goals.
I’m currently a senior at the University of North of Texas. I’m majoring in Merchandising, along with a minor in marketing, and I also have an associate degree in Arts. I worked at a clothing company called Plato’s Closet, which I spent a year at the company. I started off as a sales associate, and then I got promoted as buyer. When working at the clothing company, I really gained a lot experience with working with apparel. My daily tasks consisted of stocking merchandise daily, inserting merchandise into the computer system, working as a cashier, maintaining constant presence on the sales floor to address customer needs, styling mannequins and managing the storefront, keeping up to date on fashion trends and upcoming items, and assisting
All my life I have always done well in school, English has been my best grade for the longest. Reading and writing never seemed to challenge me, as my teachers began to notice it. When I came to school, I did not feel nervous. I felt I would be doing
I will never forget my great experiences throughout high school, but college is where a new chapter of my life begins. College is where I am challenged to study and learn, have the opportunity to make lifelong friends and grow as an independent woman. I am excited to have new
At this point in the journey a new Term is introduced that of: ‘Sub Goal’. The concept of a Sub Goal is that
After approximately 6 years of being in a small private school, it was time to go to a new school and new district. There were only about 100 students in my previous elementary school. It was a little difficult when I had to go to a new school when I didn’t know anyone. I was unhappy I had to leave the school I grew up in, but happy that I was moving on to a new chapter in life, and growing up.
Based on my experiences, I consider the School of Business to be like a large family, as cheesy as that may sound. There are people all around you who want to see you succeed and are willing to lend a helping hand if need be. I could not have graduated if it wasn’t for the professors, faulty, and students that can be found throughout the school. They understand that we are looking for something better in life and that we are willing to work for it. I know I came to the school with only the idea of graduating with a degree but now I have a whole new outlook on life. I see possibilities and career opportunities I never thought was possible. Still, I know it is a scary feeling making such a change in your life so I have some guidance I would like to offer. One is from the perspective of a transfer student and the other an accounting student of which I am both.
When I first started in high school I had one dream in mind, I was going to be an engineer. 8th grade is when I started to see what engineering was. I researched all the different types and the one that interested me the most was aerospace engineering. I thought it was so cool because they designed things like airplanes and spaceships and missiles. I could see myself in the future, working on a new spaceship for Nasa, or designing the most efficient airplane Boeing had ever seen. I continued this all through high school, until my junior year. This is when I decided to take an Introduction to Engineering class. Now the class at first was really fun we learned how to use a program called Autodesk Inventor and I really liked it. Then as time went on I grew less fond of it, and then
When it comes to planning out what I want to do for the rest of my life I find it to be very enjoyable. It makes me believe I can see into the future since I am talking about what is going to happen and then I make it happen. I have a few short-term goals that I want to accomplish. First, I will mention that at the beginning of the class I announced that I hope to improve my resume and expand my network by taking this course. I did exactly that and I also learned about social branding. This is where my first short term goal comes into place. I will set up a photoshoot before spring break and take pictures to post on my Facebook and Instagram. I will remove old pictures and update my profile on my social media sites. I noticed most of the time
As a former product management executive and co-founder of a startup, I persist in my long-term career goal to establish a high-tech company that provides innovative solutions to people’s problems. After earning my MBA, I plan to work as product manager for eminent high-tech firms such as Cisco for three to five years to gain practical experience and to make my long-term dream more realistic.
