In “The Osage Firebird” by Sudipta Bardhan, the author discusses the life of Maria Tallcheif and how she overcame many obstacles to do what she loves, dancing. In “A Life Painting Animals” by Diana Childress, the author discusses the obstacles Rosa Bonheur had to overcome to be a successful painter. To me, I think Maria was the more successful. One reason I am not choosing Rosa is because in her time women were not allowed to be certain things, and that is pretty boring because all you read about in stories are about women and their rights. So, I have decided to do something different. Maria was Indian, and most Indian women could not be ballerinas because they don’t fit the criteria. She also had to completely start over and learn the basics again. So like I said in my introductory paragraph, I chose Maria Tallchief as the more successful woman because I feel like Rosa gets more …show more content…
She realized that there was always more work to do. One of her instructors told her that she hadn't properly learned the basics, and she had to completely start over. This did help her realize that no matter how well she danced, she good always do better. “One instructor said that despite her talent, she hadn’t properly learned the basics. ‘He insisted we go back to the beginning,’” she explained. this is found on lines fourteen and fifteen from “The Osage Firebird.” So in conclusion, I have decided that Maria Tallchief is the more successful woman, but this is just my opinion. You might think that Rosa Bonheur is more successful. Although her art is amazing, her story bores me because it’s just like every other story about women out there, and that is where Maria’s story is different. Maria was able to be successful without the weight of women’s rights on her shoulders unlike the other women I've read about. So, in my opinion, Maria is the better
Natalie Zemon-Davis traces three social backgrounds: the German merchant Glikl, a french catholic mystic named Marie Guyart, and lastly Maria Sibylla Merian a skilled watercolorist and entomologist. A protestant, a catholic, and a Jew, all these women who were distanced from centers of power and authority, defined by their husband (although some worked to rebel against this) and social class. Similar to almost all women of seventeenth century Europe defined by their margins. All these women also share a trait: they left memoirs. Without those memoirs, they would be silent.

Women during this time period that Catt delivers her speech were seen as unequal and inferior to men. The sheer fact that Catt delivers such a well prepared and eloquently worded speech, even though her kind was not respected, proves that women are just as capable of greatness as men. Her willingness to share her views to an audience who believed her to be unequal proves that she is a strong and confident
“[My dance instructor] Cindy believed that ballet was richer when it embraced diverse shapes and cultures. There would be times in my career when I would struggle to remember that, but I would eventually come back to that conviction, that the stage on which I performed was brighter for having me, even if some in the audience or dancing beside didn 't always agree” (“Misty Copeland

They were never supposed to prosper in these aspects, especially not African American women. In the course of the Harlem Renaissance women completely changed the game. All don’ts turned into do’s, everything that was frowned upon, became normal. Women made their presence known, for more than the typical reasons. “The number of working women increased by 25%.”

In To Kill a Mockingbird, Mrs. Dubose has a bush of camellias in her yard. These flowers represent racism and prejudice towards black people in Macomb County. She refers to her flowers as “Snow-on-the-Mountain” that have white petals. The white petals show favoritism towards the white people in Maycomb County. In Chapter 11, Jem cuts down all the flowers with Scout’s baton.
And while she was a teacher she called for equal payment for both men and women. As men had "no more brains than women". She finally found out that women were the reason for that as they did not own any money. It was because at that time, husbands controlled everything that their wives had.
Therefore, whether female or male, they have both been praised with fame. Secondly, Murray recognizes her opposing argument, the ones who are superior in mind and strength. Since man is the beginning of creation, he holds the strength. However, there have been such females with this strength, and also men who behold the strength specified “effeminate” to females. Therefore, if animal strength proved nature, if there are females with the superior strength equivalent to a man, it is said to be an advantage.

In Misty Copeland’s case, what others thought was her flaw, helped to become her pride. She had always been told that she had too big of a body build to be a dancer. The art world is perpetually sexist and racists, and curators are key to changing the masses view on art history and contemporary art voices through representation and inclusion. In order to offer up a more just and fair representation of global artistic production, mainstream (non-activist) curators need to re-envision/re-write their definitions of "greatness" to include non-whites, non-westerners, the under-privileged, and women. In Maura Reilly's essay, Taking the Measure of Sexism: Facts, Figures, and Fixes, Reilly fixates on the differences between men and women in the art world and how little has changed in the art world for women, despite decades of feminist activists. Better does not mean equal.
