The American dream is something everyone wants to achieve in their lifetime. Jay Gatsby had an American dream he wanted to fulfill and part of his dream was to have Daisy Buchanan’s love. In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, The green light on Daisy’s dock symbolizes Gatsby’s undying obsession to fulfill his unrealistic American dream. The Green light on Daisy’s dock symbolizes a part in Gatsby’s need to reach his American Dream. Gastby is yearning for daisy's love and affection to accomplish his American dream for once and all. “Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter—tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther….and one fine morning.” (193) Nick is explaining what made Gatsby very different from all the other characters in the novel, the way he had belief and hope he had in accomplishing the American Dream. The way Gatsby went above and beyond in accomplishing his Dream and becoming who he was.
