Volleyball has been my passion since the sixth grade, I love it with all my heart, and could not imagine my life without it. This past summer I had the opportunity to attend the Concordia College volleyball camp in St. Paul with a few friends from Sartell. It has been sometime since I’ve participated in one of these camps, and I was a bit hesitant about going because I did not know what was expected of me. My mother had signed me up, as she believed that the skills I would learn would make me a better player, truth was, I was not so sure. I told my mom, “I won’t know anybody, and the girls there will be more experienced than me.” I thought to myself “this is an elite camp what am I going to be doing there interacting with girls from the metro and surrounding areas, who indeed had to be better than I was.” On the trip down I slept most of the way, but the butterflies in my stomach were running into each other.
You do have to learn plays in college but it’s not as complicated these college plays will help you be better for NBA plays. Young players going to NBA aren’t as strong as if they get stronger going to college. If they want to compete they would go to college first. I have noticed that players who go to college become really smart and they do smarter things in the NBA such has doing the right angled pass or just to have better basketball
Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world that fans of all ages watch but are unaware of how it comes with more than just a player and a ball, it is physical science. Basketball is a sport that involves up to one or more people, a court, a basketball and a goal. It involves running, jumping, and hand to eye coordination, balance and footwork. Anyone can participate in this activity for fun, however to be successful at the game, you have to be focused and have uniquely mastered these skills. For example, professional basketball player Michael Jordan is one of the best players of all time and his a unique logo is very popular, a silhouette of his slam-dunk.
I knew I would become close with my team since I spent so much time with them, but then I realized even once volleyball was over, they would still be my family. This year as varsity setter, I knew I had to take on the responsibility of leadership. I did not realize however, that I would become the team mom at the same time. My responsibility was to make sure everyone on my team kept their heads up and stayed confident because I believed in them. In the beginning of my last season I told myself that I needed to put forth one hundred percent effort every
In order to avoid regret you must avoid greed or even giving in to yours wants. Giving into your wants is just like having greed. Having greed or giving into your wants and not your needs always has a bad result. The stories are just examples of past times when it has happened and it still occurs all the time to this day and it will probably never
To start off, I learned that I get a lot of vigorous activity each week, with an average of 2240 MIE minutes because of volleyball and the strength training I have been doing also for volleyball. With all of this exercise, I met the goal for the week each time, in all day of the week. All of this exercise makes me feel great, and I have noticed that all the activity also helps me sleep better because I burned some energy that then won’t keep me awake at night. Finally, I have overall just gotten a lot stronger and bumped up my endurance tremendously with all the exercise. I enjoy doing it because I love volleyball, especially club, and I just have a lot of fun doing it, and am getting exercise when I’m doing it.
I myself play volleyball for Ridgefield High School, exercising and practicing over two hours each day. I never leave home without a bottle of Sportsburst in my backpack. To begin, Sportsburst is supremely good at re-hydrating athletes. Most students like myself who exercise more than an hour a day know that replacing the nutrients and minerals lost during a workout session is
I considered the tournament as a precious opportunity for me to prove my efforts. Nevertheless, in order to qualify to participate in this tournament, players had to be permanent residents in ShenZhen. My permanent residency was still in the previous province from where my mother came. The coach allowed me to practice with the team because he knew I really wanted to play basketball, and I practiced with all
The entire reason a team is put together and participating in practice almost every day is going towards our goal as a team to win games. Aside from our goal of winning our games, my volleyball team also worked our way to going to districts—where the top teams go to play against each other for the title of district champions. Then, if we were to make it past districts, we would participate in trying to win states—another tournament that multiple winners of different districts come together to compete against each other. Joining the volleyball team for me was for my personal enjoyment and to get involved in my high school community. These two reasons are what the majority of people join the team for.
The rubbery new smell of the ball and the unexplainable texture that I’d never felt before was surprising. The first time I ever tried to play basketball it was truly horrifying. I could barely even dribble and I was so frustrated I almost gave up. But then I kept trying and practicing until I got the hang of it. Then I could at last dribble constantly and smoothly in place or even while running.
Last year, I had no experience in the water at all, but with the help of the seniors on the team then, I was able to improve and become a much better athlete. I would like to return the favor by offering the same help and guidance to new players, that the team leaders did before me. All in all, being a leader is a large part of my life and it has taught me many things. Things like setting an example and staying dedicated come with being a leader. Even though having these responsibilities has its pros and cons, I will continue to strive to lead well in everything I
I would always enjoy those games because that was when the opposing team would concentrate on my play and my team would step up in a big way and win the game. In those days life was good and easy. Then four words would make my life more difficult than what it already was, high school and women. I had always been the type of person who could be friendly to people and would say hello even to the nerds but know that I was in high school some people (meaning girls) wanted a little more than a hello especially since I was a known sports
We try to attend every practice that my captain asked us to and we play seriously so we won’t be left out when we play volleyball. My group is more collectivistic than individualistic. The author wrote, “Collectivists (or interdependents or allocentrics) Individuals predisposed to put the group’s goals and needs above their own” (Forsyth, pg. 80). My group is focused on enjoying the volleyball game and to try our best to win against other teams.
I also love meeting new people and I think that meeting new people especially geared towards my interests, make it even more exciting! I have had the opportunity to participate in a four week long residential summer program, Summer Ventures, and I was able to gain a valuable experience of living without my parents and community members. I think that this experience has really helped me be more prepared for college and it has also helped me realize the sense of responsibility that I need to have, in order to look after myself. Furthermore, I have become extremely independent and I have definitely gained more skills like time management and
In the past, someone told me to never give up on something that I am not able go a day without thinking about, no matter what obstacles come my way. Volleyball has become a big part of my life and I see myself applying all that I have learned from this sport to my future endeavors. It definitely has impacted my life overall and I believe my life would be totally different without it. Without playing volleyball, I would not have made all the life-long friendships and amazing memories that continue to grow everyday.
