What I Ve Learned From This Course

The lessons that I’ve learned throughout the course made me more confident when assisting job seekers and students with selecting their prospective careers. From the very beginning, this course has taught me how to use my available resources when assisting with career choices. Those resourceful tools include the Occupational Outlook Handbook and Fastweb. With these tools, I learned out to effectively select a career, outline the expected job vacancy, find funding for secondary education, and access scholarship opportunities. During the group presentations, I learned about the foundations of career development, ethic and legal guidelines, assessments, and how to prepare for work; as well as how to effectively counsel in business settings and private practices. I enjoyed how we were able to work as a team to effectively teach our sections. Also, I enjoyed the personal experiences that were shared in the class. It helped give a personally perspective to the situations that we will face as career counselors. I was infatuated when I learned how to open my own private practice. It never crossed my mind before but now this will be a long term goal of mine. …show more content…

First, my goal is to help those that I know who are struggling to find a job or career of their liking. With the encouragement, I’m sure I’ll be able to positively assist with ending their job search. After completing my degree here at Norfolk State University and hired into my new profession as a school counselor, I plan start or perfect the career focused fairs/seminars and also hopefully serve as the career counselor at the school or serve as an assistant if someone already has that role. I want to provide the same about of resources for careers as there are for attending
