Natural Disasters
Natural disaster is not a new phenomenon to us here in the B.V.I. in fact we live on the impending threat of earthquakes and tsunamis. We also have to prepare annually for the Atlantic hurricane season, which starts from June 1st through November 30th. While we are luckily only privy to these, natural disaster covers much more. The Red Cross Society defines Natural Disaster as: “naturally occurring physical phenomena caused either by rapid or slow onset events which can be geophysical (earthquakes, landslides, tsunamis and volcanic activity), hydrological (avalanches and floods), climatological (extreme temperatures, drought and wildfires), meteorological (cyclones and storms/wave surges) or biological (disease epidemics and insect/animal plagues).” While this definition may sound very technical, the actual effects of these disasters can be

The tropical storms Erika and Grace brought some serious hardship to the island of Dominica. While the presence and magnitude of the storm was publicized widely no one could have been thoroughly prepared for streets turning into violent rivers overnight and buildings washing away in the streets, or cars pile on top of each other mixed with thick buildup of mud. It was so bad that other islands started to make cooperation and effort to help the island of Dominican to relief from the catastrophe that the tropical storms caused to their agricultural, roads, bridges, power utilities and health and school system after its passage. One of those islands is the British Virgin Islands, according to BVI news online “The British Virgin Islands will be sending healthcare workers and disaster management personnel to the Commonwealth of Dominica to assist with relief efforts following the August 27 passage of the deadly Tropical Storm Erika which severely affected the Caribbean island.” (BVI
Hurricane Hugo was a storm that dealt damage to the entire coast of South Carolina in September, 1989. However, one problem that historians have run into with the discussion on Hurricane Hugo is that very few works have been written on the overlying impact Hurricane Hugo had on the entire Low Country of South Carolina. Therefore, this thesis will synthesize accounts of the damage that Hurricane Hugo caused

An example of climate catastrophes affecting people’s health is in California. Places such as California have experienced extreme heat in the past and present, and the heat has affected the health of inhabitants as well as other living creatures. Many vulnerable communities are unable to cope with the heat, leading to a greater risk of heat-related fatalities. An article by Michael T. Schmeltz states, “In the United States, from 2000 to 2010 there were approximately 28,000 recorded heat-related hospitalizations…an average of about 700 people died because of heat related illnesses..” To help ameliorate the fatalities, the state has been implementing safety task force programs.
The Dust Bowl was both natural and human disaster, which some of it provoked by human activities. In the 1920’s the weather was favorable with plentiful of rain and technology such as tractors. This helped Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, New Mexico, and Colorado’s great plains. Yet, farmers gave little consideration of the prairie grass that secured the topsoil. The topsoil was a great source for crops to grow.
I write this letter to you to discuss the catastrophe that stands throughout the United States. Upon my arrival, the Civil War was coming to an end, and the unification of the nation was just beginning. I believed this to be good, or I had wished. On April 15th, President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth. It became apparent that “Booth had steadfastly defended the Confederacy and white supremacy, and his act was part of a larger conspiracy to eliminate the heads of the Union government and keep the Confederate fight going” (Restoring the Union, 2014).
Presidential Disasters Intelligence, honesty, and character are all qualities Americans look for in a president. Citizens want someone with power; someone who will make the nation better. These are things citizens have hoped for as early as the 1700s, when the nation elected the first president. Since then, citizens have placed many expectations on the president. When trouble comes or a disaster hits the nation, we as citizens typically rely on the president to provide aid and to support us during those times.

he Great Blizzard of 88 Our natural hazard is blizzards. Blizzards are a severe snowstorm with high winds and low visibility. Blizzards can form when warm air must rise over cold air. Due to the recent events, the groups of society have been majorly affected. The flood that happened in South Carolina, not only destroy many homes and family but also changed many of the social group and the socialization by people. The worst that happened was not having water to drink, till it is boiled.
INTRODUCTION Catastrophes affect humanity all the time but two of the most memorable in history are Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Harvey. Hurricanes are first seen from the satellite. This means that the hurricanes are spotted right away, it gets predicted where its going to impact first and how strong it can be when it hits the ground. These hurricanes are extremely dangerous because of its high-speed winds it comes with and the amount of rain produced by them, this makes it worst because they can last for days.
Natural disasters like floods, in mountains floods can result in heavy rain or sudden snow melts. Fires, can be started by lightning, human carelessness, or arson, and can spread very rapidly. Winter storms; you need to pay attention to weather forecasts in your area and stay at home if possible until roads are clear, downed electrical wires are cleared, and services restore. Hurricanes and tornadoes, West Virginia is not a typical hurricane or a tornado path, however, very high wind sometimes with heavy rain, can create emergency conditions. As said in
Homework 7 Gaven D. Crosby Pennsylvania College of Technology Homework 7 This paper will discuss the way that the Mississippi River, and the New Deal have affected emergency management. The Mississippi River is a river that floods quite often, almost every year. The lower portion floods more than the upper portions, and affects more people. This is due to the terrain of the areas surrounding the lower Mississippi.
These include floods and droughts. However, the most concrete impact recently has been by drought. The government and the people have not been able to provide enough food supply for themselves. Due to the growth
There are a few research studies and related pieces of literature that concerns disaster preparedness of nurses. This important due to the fact that nurses is a big chunk in health workforce. Moreover, nurses are considerably the first-line health professionals in giving health care services. As such in times of disaster, preparedness on a personal and professional level is important. As a result, it will enable nurses not only to ensure safety, health and well-being of their client or patients but also themselves.
