Salami in the year 2010 studied about CAREER PLATEAUING AND WORK ATTITUDES: MODERATING EFFECTS OF MENTORING OTHERS. Salami in his study found that inertia has a negative effect on employees' work attitudes on the job plateau. While it's important for managers to recognize employees' work attitudes will be a significant impact on individual and organizational performance and success. Although few studies have been done on the relationship between these two variables, he concluded in his review that the inertia rust with some work attitudes such as job satisfaction and organizational commitment is negatively related and job rotation has positive relation. Prior research has used career plateau to account for employees’ work outcomes. Owing to recent de-emphasis on organizational careers, however, employees may have changed their attitudes toward career plateau. This research argues that professional plateau-defined as the point where employees find their jobs unchallenging and that they provide few opportunities for professional development and future employability-can enhance the explanation for employees’ work outcomes. The major hypothesis of this research is that professional plateau will account for a significant variance in three work outcomes-namely, career satisfaction, job satisfaction, and turnover intentions. Data collected from a questionnaire survey were used to test the hypotheses in this research. The results show that professional plateau accounted for a significant variance in the three work outcomes. The results are significant because they add another dimension to our understanding of plateau. This study has examined the relationship between two types of plateaus and their work outcomes. The study has made two contributions. First, it has reinforced the significance of career plateau in the current work setting. The results of this research have shown that experiencing a career plateau is related to employees’ career and job satisfaction. More importantly, however, this study has contributed by extending the plateau literature. It introduced the professional plateau construct and has shown that professional plateau accounted for a significant variance in three work outcomes-namely, career satisfaction, job satisfaction, and turnover intentions. This study, therefore, sets the stage for future research to take into account the possible effects of professional plateau on work
Individual’s attitude definitely makes or breaks how they feel about their jobs. In addition, the workers’ attitudes and need result from their reason for working. Most of the employees in Gig work simply because they want to remain busy or they knew what they like, enjoyed or had the addition qualifications for those jobs. However, Ehrenreich worked the minimum wage jobs because she needed to support herself, keep food on the table and a roof over her head.
On Career Foundry I stumbled upon Dawn Schelecht’s post about the differences between UX and UI. In her post, Schelecht not only differentiates UI and UX but also compares the whole experience to brownies. Even though the comparison seemed a little off-beat, I was curious to see where was going with her argument. I soon discovered UX is similar to the process of making brownies whereas UI is similar to plating and serving them. For instance, the UX designer puts careful thought into the development in order to satisfying the end user’s interaction with the brownie.
“In Climbing Income Ladder, Location Matters” In the article, “In Climbing Income Ladder, Location Matters,” by David Leonhardt (2013), he discusses the social gaps between different areas of America. The article begins recounting the daily occurrences of Stacy Calvin, a resident in the Atlanta area. Because of the geography and economic issues, life for Stacy is not easy as she travels countless hours and jobs to provide for her family. This issue is a common occurrence in the city of Atlanta, is one of the most economically slanted cities in America; partially because of highly affluent areas surrounded by large areas of poverty.
INTRODUCTION Some goals I have for this paper is for people to understand that people’s versions of things are not always going to be the what it is supposed to be and that people have opinions. Another goal is that people don’t judge this paper because it is not perfect, humans are not perfect. Lastly, my final goal for this paper is for it to be good enough for me to do more productive things. SURVEY RESULTS The basic survey results made a graph about what I am better at.
The view of change using this theory is that a person’s career path is unpredictable and change will happen in ways that a person will not expect. People need to be prepared for changes in their career path that come from unplanned events. Additionally, people have their own patterns of behaviors but that can change based on future events. The role of the counselor is to manage expectations, teach clients about the chaos that occurs in their career development, and build resiliency when unpredictable difficult events occur. When managing expectations, counselors must give the clients realistic expectations so that they do not believe that their career path will follow their exact plan without having unpredictable events delay or remove them from their plan entirely.

Theoretical assumptions: People used to see career counselling as making a decision in regard to which career path to follow after having one or two meetings with a career counsellor (Krumboltz, Foley & Cotter, 2013). According to Hall (2004) this few has changed over the past two decades and it is clear that career development is not a onetime choice but rather a lifelong process. Savickas (2012) argues that the form of career intervention must change just like the form of work changes to reflect the labor needs of the twenty-first century. Krumboltz, Foley and Cotter (2013) argues that clients must create more satisfying lives for themselves with the help of counsellors. A model of career counselling, the happenstance learning theory, helps
At this time in our very lives we are planning for the future and making a ladder for ourselves of goals to reach. As you climb higher on the ladder you find yourselves aspiring to take actions that may be more difficult than we imagined. This is just the beginning and we do not give up. As the years come faster I made a list of the things that I am planning on persuing. This is correspondent to the person-job fit theory, which is defined by the compatibility between a person’s characteristics and those of a specific job (Kristof-Brown and Guay, 2011). Research has shown that person-job fit has a number of positive outcomes. Notably, person-job fit can be a reasonable predictor of job performance because individuals with high person-job fit are found to have positive work outcomes (Edwards, 1991). Therefore, it is reasonable to expect that placing talents in positions which fit their strengths can enhance their performance. In addition, person-job fit is found to be related to productivity and organizational commitment (Rousseau and McLean Parks, 1993).
