Most people view cheerleading as twenty four girls in skimpy uniforms who know basic cheers along with rhythmic stomps and claps, but this is not entirely the case. Cheerleading involves an athleticism unlike any other sport or physical activity. While some people say competitive cheerleading is too unmethodical and muddled to be considered a sport, it actually meets all the criteria to be considered one. Competitive cheerleading is physically demanding, competitive, and regulated. Although competitive cheerleading meets all the components of a sport, some people still see it as merely an athletic activity.

In the story “Marble Champ,” By Gary Soto, the main character Lupe Medrano is a role model for kids my age. Lupe is a role model because she is hardworking at things that she does, she shows sportsmanship, and she is intelligent. Lupe is a role model because she’s hard working. Because Lupe has been squeezing rubber eraser 100 times to make her thumb muscles more muscular and bigger. To add on to this lupe is hardworking is that lupe started doing pushups with her fingertips to make her fingers stronger.

Do you ever wonder what classifies a sport as a sport? Why do some hobbies and pastimes make the cut while all those others, which some people say may be a sport, like cheerleading, do not? Is it the number of players involved, the arena it’s held in or the equipment used? Well, I think it’s all three of these and more that ensure the title of it being a sport.

I want to be a GHS cheer captain. I may not be one of the most talented girls on the squad, but I feel I am one of the most dedicated. I have cheered for going on 4 years now and I know all the ins and outs of cheerleading. I have had my fair share of good captains and not so good captains, therefore I know what I need to do to leave a positive impact on all of you, as a captain.
Especially in college, cheerleading should be a sport, because college level is higher and more strategic than middle and high school cheer. Yes, cheerleading is a very feminine sport and use to be a male ran activity but Title IX and all of its components should fulfill the needs for cheerleading. Cheerleading being feminine and looked down upon should not be the reason why they do not receive the aids, and materials they would need to be successful. It takes the same amount of athleticism as these sports and even more physical and emotional abilities. Cheerleading leads you to finding the best of your abilities and skills in yourself, which is very important in each sport, especially cheerleading. Tumbling down the court once again she lands perfectly on her feet after doing a back handspring. The crowd cheers for her as she says to her teammates and coach “I love this sport and I could never leave it from an ankle injury.” Cheerleading is an amazing sport that delivers camaraderie, competition, and provided injuries that will pick back up again.
