"The Countries of the Caribbean contributes less than one per cent of global carbon emissions, yet they are likely to be among the earliest and most impacted countries affected by climate change in the next few decades.”- (Essential Map work Skills for the Caribbean by Judy Rocke and Simon Ross). Hello! My Name is Lorenz and I am here to warn you about the Caribbean’s continuous changing climate and what can be done about it before it further affects us. First of all, climate is not weather. Climate is the average condition of the elements of weather (rainfall, temperature, humidity, pressure, wind speed, sunshine, and wind direction) of a sizeable area of the earth’s surface over a lengthy period of time (approximately 30 years). On the other …show more content…
We are destroying the ozone layer by releasing toxins such a Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) from aerosol sprays into the atmosphere. We also cause a process of global warming by releasing pollutants in the air that raise the earth’s average temperature. Global warming occurs due to the Greenhouse Effect where heat is trapped in the earth and hardly could escape. Some gases (called greenhouse gases) trap even more heat causing the earth’s temperature to rise. Scientists noted that the average temperature of the earth’s surface air and oceans has begun to increase drastically by one to three degrees Celsius. By 2050 they predict that it would increase by 2.5 degrees …show more content…
Therefore deforestation is not safe for the environment.
Climate change is not a good thing, thus having negative effects on us. Some examples are:
• Decrease in food due to drops in agricultural yields.
• Increased and more intensive rainfall and storms due to quick evaporation resulting in floods causing diseases such as malaria.
• Quick evaporation also causes longer droughts more frequent forest fires.
• Rise in sea level: Due to melting of ice caps in artic and glacier regions. This would bring coastal flooding; coast erosion and waterlogging .Places like Belize are vulnerable to the effects of sea level rise because of populated coastal plains. Can affect hundreds of thousands of people. Risen 15cm last 100 years.
• Impure water: Sea water may leak into ground water and contaminate it by floods.
• Coral reefs are destroyed: Heat bleaches the corals that cause a decrease in tourism and a decrease in marine animal life.
• Increase in heat can cause medical problems such as heat stroke, heat cancer.
• Damage to forests and organisms habitats by climate
Climate includes the patterns of temperature, precipitation, humidity, wind and seasons. What is climate change? • Climate change is the change in the usual weather found in a place. This could be a change in how much rain a place gets in a year or it could be a change in the usual temperature of a place. • Climate change is also a change
Erik Alvarez Professor Bogusky December 02, 2015 INTRODUCTION Hello everyone, one of my earliest memories that I have from school is from my first day of kindergarten. I remember walking into my ESL, english as a second language class, & instantly being questioned as to why I was in there. My fellow classmates assumed I was asian because of how I looked and teased me to the point of tears. In reality, I am of Guatemalan origin.

(Relevancy Statement)- Haiti located in the subtropics on the western third of Hispaniola, the second largest island in the Caribbean, which it shares with Dominican Republic, our neighbor islands include Cuba, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico. III. (Credibility Statement) - My family are from Haiti, I was born there then moved here with my mother when I was 11.
Deforestation has led to another of many reasons of global warming and low rainfall, which can affect crops for farmers. How it affects resources, services and finance and etc- In resources, deforestation provides a lot of different type of oil, like palm oil and lumber, cattle ranching, farming, buildings, paper, homes, furniture and urbanization. Even though it decreases a natural resources, many different types of other resources are created as a result. Since it provides people with enterprise, it can benefit the distribution of trade with other countries, and increase job opportunities.
Exquisite food, breathtaking regions, and music that gives life to the dead. Yes, you guessed right ! I’m talking about beautiful Mexico. As a Mexican living in the United States, people, including myself, thought that I had missed out on a lot. However, what we didn’t know is that Mexican cultures and traditions travel and surpass any and every boundary.
Today I will be talking about an amazing country named jamaica it is a talented country and we will be talking about how they say stuff and how they do stuff for the holidays. Speaking of holidays that is the word we are going to learn how to say in jamaica but other than that I will now tell you stuff about jamaica and this is interesting too. I will now tell you how my country celebrates the holidays instead of the holidays lasting one day they last two days in jamaica because they like their holidays long. Did you know that Christmas may start at 6 a.m and you go to church
IMPACTS OF GLOBAL WARMING ON THE ENVIRONMENT SLINDILE.C MAZIBUKO 215011983 UNIVERSITY OF KWAZULU NATAL WESTVILLE CAMPUS DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA ABSTRACT One of the biggest problems facing the world today is global warming. It is evident that there is climate change around the world. In recent years, we have so many unusual hurricanes, typhoons, floods, droughts and earthquakes. Plants and animals that lived in the cold climates are now disappearing.
They also serve as water catchment areas. Effects of Deforestation Despite their importance, it has been estimated that more than 50 million acres of rainforests are destroyed or seriously degraded every year. 1. Deforestation causes soil erosion, landslides and flash floods During the rain seasons and it rains for a long period of time, the top layer of soil loosens and slide down which cause landslides.
Global Warming Proposal Introduction The phenomenon of constant increase in the earth’s temperature is known as global warming. The excessive use of fossil fuels is destroying our environment as well as wildlife. It is a great threat to human life too, as this activity is causing intense pollution and also results in damaging the ozone layer.
When large storms hit land with these increased sea levels it causes large storm surges that can destroy anything in its paths. If temperatures continue to rise other natural disasters could occur ("Global Warming Will Produce More Katrina-Like Storms"). A warmer wetter atmosphere could spawn more tropical storms and there will be floods in places that do not get much rainfall. Humans could prevent these problems if they were to cut down on the use of fossil fuels and use more renewable energy. Renewable energy consists of wind, solar, and lunar power.
These effects of deforestation are obviously very bad, but there is one major positive effect of cutting down trees: it will help the economy. In developing countries, cutting down trees and selling their lumber could potentially become a major source of revenue for the government. In addition, they will also have more space to build things such as farms, which will boost the economy by giving more people
Now another natural cause of global warming is the rising of the seas. The biggest reason for sea level rising is that global warming is causing the air to be warmer and that 's causing glaciers and ice-caps to melt. Sea level rise would affect about 11 out of the 15 biggest cities in the world. The reason this is happening because gases are being released into the atmosphere which is causing the temperatures to rise, which causes the seas to rise. Sea level rising means more money that we have to spend for people living on the coastlines because coastal populations are growing and people are crowding into coastal areas and that area could be underwater in a few years if sea levels keep rising how they have been.
Climate change is a change in global or provincial climate that changes over a time span of many years. Weather can change in just a few hours, But Climate change takes hundreds or even millions of years to change. Climate change is happening all around us. Whether it is the global temperature rise or the melting of the polar ice caps, it is happening.
Global climate change constitutes arguably the single most important threat to mankind. From the onset of the industrial revolution, greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs), including carbon dioxide (CO2) have increasingly built up in the atmosphere, causing the climate to warm up slowly but steadily (IPCC, 2014). NASA predicts that 2016 will mark the hottest year on record. The effects of global warming are ubiquitous: Greenland’s glacier and the Arctic ice cap are melting, ocean levels are rising, occurrences of extreme weather are increasing, including hurricanes and areas of either intense drought or flooding. Collectively, these changes and their direct consequences are an imminent danger and they directly affect other urgent issues humanity is
Hence, deforestation increases. This is another effect of overpopulation that impacts the worsening of the environment [2]. For example decreased forest size increases the amount of carbon in the environment. More specifically, deforestation affects the wildlife and results in biodiversity loss and species extinction [1].
