Although gender inequality is still common today it was a much bigger social problem years ago. People lived very stereotypical lives which some continue to live. Different jobs may automatically reflect a person’s gender within society for example, even within the health care occupations men usually have the higher status jobs such as consultants whereas nurses are seen as being females, as it’s a job of caring nature and the likes of farmers and carpenters are seen as being the occupations of males as they involved outdoor, physical work.

Males are more likely to get lung cancer, cardiovascular disease and are also more likely to commit suicide. Females on the other hand are more likely to have arthritis and have depression as well as dementia. Females are also associated with cervical cancer and males with prostate cancer, as it is it their sexual organs that determine that whereas they both can suffer from breast cancer even though it is more associated with females. A person’s health can be determined by many factors including their age, the life they live, genes and finance, as the more finance a person has the better quality of life they can live. These can all vary basically depending on their gender.
Clearly woman have not got gender equality as only 4 countries have achieved gender equality. Social Inequalities

Your job affects everything in your life. A person could have all the qualifications in the world and still not be seen as to be entitled for the position based on their gender and the role that they are believed to play within society. They pay gap obviously effects women more so then the men. Many people who are high up in the employment ladder tender to be from an older generation and of a male gender were the women were seen as caregivers, stay at home mothers etc.
Obviously if the female stays at home to mind children and look after the home and the male is the breadwinner well then he will have more money earned. This is the traditional way of life in Ireland and not many people live this way anymore and therefore it should not be an excuse to use when it comes to giving a reason for the gender pay gap.
