The people in St. Benedict’s life were blessed with the chance to witness many of his miracles. Throughout his life, Benedict was gifted with the ability to preform a variety of acts by Christ. Within the book The Life of St. Benedict by Gregory the Great, Terrence G. Kardong presented the reader with the accounts of the miracles within Benedict’s life and a chance to learn more about his God given gift. One type of miracle performed by Benedict were miracles of prophecy. Through these, Benedict astonished his brothers and the citizens of his community. These miracles provided the brothers with a chance to learn important life lessons, while inspiring them to grow in their connection with Christ. The first account of Benedict’s miracle of prophecy occurred when he was in Monte Cassino. One rule given to the brothers was that they were not allowed to eat or drink outside of the monastery walls, but on an errand run that ran late into the night, some of the brothers broke this rule. Upon their return, Benedict confronted them by asking, “‘Where did you eat?’ They answered: ‘Nowhere.’ He said to them: ‘Why are you lying? Didn’t you enter the house of such and such a woman? There were two points that helped support with Francis leading a revolutionary life. Those points were friendship and poverty. Sweeney spoke about how important friendship and poverty was to Francis. Saint Solanus Casey was ordained a simplex priest, meaning he was not allowed to hear confessions or preach homilies. This however, didn’t stop people from seeking him out for advice, healing, and forgiveness as a representative and follower of God. Saint Solanus was known for his miraculous healings and conversions and his powerful faith in God. Saint Solanus showed his compassion for the needy by establishing a soup kitchen still present in the Capuchin seminary today. Even before his death, Saint Solanus maintained a powerful trust and faith in God, showing in his final words “I give my soul to Jesus”.

The “other,” are commonly perceived as anyone belonging to the Muslim faith, or having descended, and or immigrated, from the Middle East region. They regularly face hateful actions and insults. In his First Apology, Justin Martyr relies on truth and reason to defend Christians, who are being treated unfairly. He believes that their beliefs are misunderstood and overlooked. According to Justin Martyr, Christianity is the most reasonable and he wants to convince the Emperor so that he ends the unjust treatment towards them.
