Life in the North was different from life in the South. Geography of the North and South was important to their way of life. The society in the South treated slaves badly, but African Americans in the North were free. The geography of the North includes hundreds of bays in New England. In section 2 it states that these bays were important because they were perfect for use as harbors. The broad rivers in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey made the land rich for farming. The broad rivers made travel faster and cheaper. The geography in the South was very different. In section 3 it says the North Carolina has thick pine forests. Also the South has long hot summers and mild winters. In Northern society the African Americans were not treated
The issue of slavery played a part in nearly everyone’s lives during this era. It was debated daily whether or not to keep the system. Adversely in the north, people had many other issues to deal with very few relating to slavery. In the north many people lived in cities. The people who lived in cities were quite poor and lived in slums.
The latter’s economy was factory driven, therefore there was no need for the slave labor, which there was a very high demand for in the southern states. People in the north were starting to realize that although these slaves were black, they were still people, a relatively new idea for Americans, whom had relied on this labor for hundreds of years. The northern peoples had the epiphany that the African-American people were being treated very unfairly and unethically and were not happy with it. The southern people were either blind to this fact or chose to ignore it so that they could continue to thrive financially, and make the most money using the free slave labor. The work in the south was much more labor intensive, whether it was agriculture or something of the like, so the landowners were much more content sitting back watching the darker skinned people do all the dirty work for them.
Slavery in the North , West , and South Region Can you imagine being separated from your family at a very young age and while being away having to endure hard labor as in picking cotton and harvesting in the field with the fear of being whipped. Slavery was a very difficult time for African Americans. It was very brutal and degrading. In this essay I will compare and contrast Slavery in three different regions and explain why it was such a tough time for African American. Slavery in the Northern Region
Perhaps the most stark difference between Northern and Southern lifestyle was the presence of slavery. In the North, Americans believed that the presence of slavery threatened their jobs and the expansion of industry. Some growing reform movements in the North also targeted slavery as a core problem of the United States. The South, however, was economically dependent on the presence of slavery. Southern Americans saw Northern abolitionist movements as a threat to the interests of the entire
In general, the South was forced to get all of its bare necessities from the North which included material for railroads, canals, and steamships (Document 3). The South could never survive without the North and the North knew this. In effect, the sections spread further apart causing sectionalism to expand between them. Eventually, the South got angry and attacked leaving no option for the North, but to retaliate back. The distinct economies of the North and South helped influence
The North and the South differed from each other in various different ways including the geography, the economy, their society, and the transportation methods. Their economies developed in different ways depending on how they did things. One was more of a farmland, while the other was more of ports and rivers and streams. The way the North and the South differed helped them develop and grow into the economy that they were.
The treatment of slaves between the North and the South was drastically different. Slaves in the North typically lived in the same house as their master and worked by themselves, or in small groups (pg. 94). Slaves in the South tended to live in large plantations in which they were housed in plantation outbuildings (pg. 104). The difference between the North and the South in housing and working environment had a direct effect on the integration of African Americans into their new American society. When they were housed in the North with their masters and had limited exposure to other slaves, they tended to adopt the ways of their masters.
The north had many mountains that covered much of the landscape. Also Instead of the harsh winters it was much easier to survive because of the warmer temperatures. Even though these people were Self minded I believe that this was a better area of living compared to anywhere else that is why I would be migrating here. As much as I disagree with the fact of the slavery I would still come here because it offered the most to a British North
During the Reconstruction period, the North and the South had very different ideas on how to handle all of the new problems in America regarding the freed slaves. Though the North and the South had contradictory ideas that ranged from the basic needs of the freed slaves to establishing new state governments, the Reconstruction period strived to unify the North and the South. In the Reconstruction period, freedom was a new idea for many African Americans and they aimed to establish all of their new rights, even if they were unsure of their lives after the Civil War. The North and South, both having different ideas, had two different ways to meet the basic needs for food, service, and industry.
There were many differences between the North and the South. For instance, the South were very agricultural as opposed to the North which were industrial. The South used cheap labor in the form of slaves, whereas the North had workers do their jobs in factories at a faster pace. Because of sectionalism, competition between the north and the south began to increase.
The North championed itself as place for industry and established financial institutions. There were greater numbers of doctors, engineers, and bankers than in the South and this all revolved around a culture of densely populated cities. These new professions all led to a new thriving middle class. But there was still severe disparities between the poor and the rich. In fact the poor white also revealed itself in claiming to be better than any black man.
Geography's effect on the early North American colonies is undeniable, but the way location affected the people of the early colonies is much more significant. Primarily, the economy was the biggest aspect of life affected by geography. From the Atlantic Ocean acting as a barrier from the New World to the Old World, and to the climate difference between the cold winters of the New England colonies to the hot summers in the Southern colonies, each played a central role in the development of the colonies. Good or bad, geography was always an essential factor economically for those who lived in the early southern, middle, and northern colonies. Geography has continually influenced the way people live and the early colonies were no different.
The South was offended by the North. The North had prominent economy. Northern states based their economy on trade and manufacture goods. Document 3 states, “ the North’s economy came to depend more on trade than on agriculture.” Document 5 also inform how cities in the North grew promptly, the railway system, and the shipping industry.
In the North slavery wasn't practiced. The economy of the North was mainly dependent on industry. The North depended on the South for
The North and South emerged as two differences because they had various differences. These differences included the geography, the economy, societal, and differences in the transportation systems. One of the most strong differences between the North and the South was the Climate and geography. In the North The climate is very different from the south. North has warm summers and snowy, cold winters like wise the south has warm, sunny, hot, humid summers ;and mild winters ,and heavy rainfall.
