The supporting details that lead to the plot were different, but the overall theme of the story and video was the same. Even though the story and video of the “Monkey’s Paw’’ had some similarities and differences, some of the similarities were the theme and the conflict and the difference was the series of the events leading to the plot.
The story and video of the “Monkey’s Paw” had the same theme, the theme was be careful of what you wish for. The conflict of the “Monkey’s Paw” was the curse the monkey paw had on the family causing death in the family. After the wish was asked for in order to get it death had to happen which caused the family to hate the monkey’s paw. “He wanted to show that fate ruled people’s lives, and that those who tried to change it would be sorry” ( Jacobs 2 ).This illustrates that when someone wishes from the monkey paw something bad happens after it. It also states “He was caught in the machinery,” said the visitor at length in a low voice” ( Jacobs 6 ).This shows how after the wish the son died and they ended up getting the money, but not the way they wanted to get …show more content…
Something that was different about the two was the series of events that lead up to the plot. In the story Mr. White wished for two hundred pounds, but in the video he wished for three hundred pounds. This is a very important part of the plot because it shows how the amount of money was received after something bad happened. The story states “I wish for two hundred pounds, said the old man clearly” ( Jacobs 4 ).This shows that Mr. White wished for two hundred pounds from the monkey’ paw in the story. In the video Mr. White wished for three hundred pounds from the monkey’s paw. These series of events found in the story and video make what happens in the plot a little different because in one it was two hundred and in the other it was three

Thesis: In The Monkey's Paw by W.W Jacobs, the realistic essence of the monkey's paw made it fundamentally creepy. Point 1: The monkey's paw is a symbol for inclination for greed, exposing our superior wants as people, even the most humble. Point 2: Consequences for the actions of those using the paw develops the image of regret and fear. Point 3:
Imagine you were granted three wishes; and that's all. You can make whatever wishes you desire, but if not justifiable or reasonable, there could be a price to pay. The short story "The Monkey's Paw" by W.W. Jacobs discusses the alarming tale of an older couple being granted "three wishes" from a monkey's paw given to them. However, the purpose of the paw isn't to grant wishes; it is to show that you shouldn't change your fate. The film adaptation of the short story by Ricky Lewis Jr. also showcases that moral.
Jacob using the monkey's paw for the magical object also symbolizes how the family feels when their wish might be granted. Representing the joy you feel when you get what you want but don't know what harm might be caused, you are tricked into believing that the only thing that will happen is your wish being granted. You might believe you are getting what you want but don't fully realize that something unpleasant can come with that, there is usually a price to pay, something to give up. Mr. White freaks out while making a wish because the paw moved "' As I wished, it twisted in my hand like a snake.’"(Jacob 4) he said.
Mrs White says he has everything he wants and isn’t sure what to wish for, and it seems like he had everything. Herbert then says that two of the hundred pounds would enable them to pay off the money owed for the house. Afterward Mrs. White is convinced and decides to wish for two hundred pounds, but later on, this shows how the monkey's paw had affected the
With Morris’s face whitening, it tacitly tells the audience that something terrifying happened when Morris made his wishes. This foreshadows that something dreadful will happen once the Whites make their wishes. Question 2: Compare Mr. White’s feelings about the monkey’s paw when he makes the first wish, second wish, and third wish. How does his attitude change?
In the story “The Monkey’s Paw” there was a small amount of cause and effect events, these cause and effect events create different feelings like suspense and much more. Mr. White told a story about the monkey’s paw after hearing it he wanted to test it to see if it was true he then wished for 200 pounds. The next day a soldier came to their house, saying their son had died, but they got the two hundred pounds they wished for, this happened all because he wished for two hundred pounds its simple
Two stories and two magical wishes. The Monkey’s Paw and the Story of an Hour share several similarities throughout the passage. In the beginning of each passage, the author creates a sense of mystery and curiosity for the readers. As each passage reveals the characters in the story, the reader begins to relate the characters role from each story and how they act towards the conflict in the text. These different events, conflicts, or plot in both stories connect with death and wishes.
An Analysis of “The Monkey’s Paw” What horrors can happen from changing one's fate? Fate is a force that can't be stopped, nor persuaded. W.W. Jacobs shows this with terrifying images in "The Monkey's Paw". Early events in the story foreshadow the future horrors, which makes them effective. W. W. Jacobs uses symbolism, foreshadowing, and imagery to show the consequences of taking charge of one's fate.
The conflict in the story is not only the monkey’s paw but was somewhat Mr. White’s attitude. If he never was that greedy the story would have changed he would have agreed with Morris and burned the monkey’s paw but he didn’t want to do that creating the plot. Any change in the plot could have/ would have altered the course of the story but also altering the theme. In “The Monkey’s Paw,” the downfall of the White family is when they receive the two hundred pounds as a compensation for the son’s death which was actually caused by messing with fate.
Have you ever watched a suspenseful movie about magic? Have you ever wished you had your own genie that would grant you three wishes? However, the three wishes aren 't exactly what you wished for? Well in the story the Monkey’s Paw that pattern seems to be happening a lot.
