Being on the road and driving a car can be very dangerous. There are many causes to crashes and death that can happen on the roads. Speeding is one of the many causes to crashes. Another cause is following to closely. There are many other causes like not keeping in proper lane, not yielding to the right of way, and running off the road. On Utah roads, speeding too fast is the top leading cause of death by forty- two percent, followed by failed to keep in proper lane at thirty-nine percent. Going to fast can cause you to lose control of the car. By not staying in the proper lane you can cut people or even hit people, which can cause an accident. Final “Driving While Stupid” written by Dave Barry explains to his readers why Miami, Florida is the most dangerous place to drive in in the world because of the reckless drivers. Though it is not a fact that Miami has the most dangerous drivers, he explains why he believes it could be the most dangerous by telling the readers the experiences he has been in in many other places. The way he gets his argument across is by using many different hyperboles to emphasis the main point of this short story. In the beginning of his short story, Dave Barry, gives the readers a setting of the “worst darned drivers in the world.”
A vehicle crash kept Route 30 between Buchanan Valley Road and Pine Ridge Lane closed for several hours as police investigated a crash in western Adams County. Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Joshua Yoder said a Nissan Versa was turning left into the Village of Laurel Run when it collided with a Hyundai Sante Fe shortly before 7 a.m. The road reopened shortly before 1 p.m. Both female drivers were taken to York Hospital for treatment of injuries. A man who stopped to help the woman in the Versa and was struck by a Toyota Yaris, police said, and he was also taken to York Hospital. Police did not know the extent of the injuries.

In 2016, crashes spiked heavily after most people though it was getting better. Fifteen percent of crashes happened because of the driver interacting with another passenger. Figure 2 shows interaction with another passenger which was the number one reason for teenage wrecks in 2016. cell phone usage only made up twelve percent of teenage accidents (Johnson, 2016).

Speeding and Teen Fatalities Speeding is becoming an increasingly large problems among teenage drivers. from 2000 to 2011 accidents caused by speeding increased from thirty to thirty three percent. The leading cause of death in teenagers is automobile accidents. (NHTSA) Seventy five percent of teen drivers crash due to critical errors like going to fast for road conditions. Speeding is a primary cause in a third of fatal crashes involving teen drivers, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA).
“Every year 500,000 teens are injured in a car wreck. Every year 5,000 teens die in a car wreck meaning an average of 14 teens die a day. Car crashes are the No. 1 killer of teens in the U.S. Even more than alcohol and drug abuse, violence and suicide”. Teens are always excited to earn their license and drive out on the road for the first time, but not every time will be a success, it might also be their last.
The higher the speed limit, the more likely the crash will be severe. There happens to be proven research that shows that speed has little effect on how fast people drive. “ People are capable of finding a good speed without the following the speed limit signs” (Boyles). Sometimes the driver gets distracted and loses his or her focus on the road. Speeding and being distracted, even by the smallest things, can cause an accident or even life threatening injures.
Although young adults ages 16 through 25 makeup only 15% of U.S. licensed drivers, they are associated with 30 percent of all alcohol-related deaths. This is twice the amount of licensed drivers in that age group. Lack of experience with both drinking and driving contributes to this irregular rate. In 2007, teens at the age of 15 to 24 died in fatal car crashes and 45 percent of the deaths were alcohol related. So it may not come as any surprise that traffic crashes are the leading cause of deaths in the United States for people younger than 25.
The major dangers of speeding include the environmental aspect, driving too fast for road conditions, and speeding kills. Driving responsibly is our duty as citizens. We must be defensive in our driving habits. Defensive driving is driving to save lives, time and money, in spite of the conditions around you and the actions of others. Also, defensive driving is the responsibility of everyone who operates a vehicle in our roadway community.
One of the greatest death causes while driving for many years was because of individuals driving under the influence of alcohol. However, alcohol is no longer the only reason why so many deaths are being caused out in the streets while driving. Society is so consumed by this one thing that even while driving it cannot wait. Those who are driving do not understand the danger they put themselves and others in when they give their attention away from the road and everything around them. This small device in the hands of people while driving has caused many deaths in our world.
