The craft beer and homebrew industry in Wilmington has changed the landscape of the city for the better since the movement began. Many brewing companies move into neglected urban areas, and often times historic buildings within the city. When a new brewery opens, just like any business, it requires staff and employees to run the facility, and with the traffic brought in by the breweries comes other small businesses moving into the now profitable areas. These small businesses will often times go on to create symbiotic relationships, whether it be with local artists, food trucks, or musicians.
Many of the most well known breweries in the city are located in restored historic buildings. According the Hannah Brewer of TWC News, as of 2015 Waterline

The biggest beneficiary of this would be local food trucks. Due to local regulations, food trucks are required to be set up on private property, and can’t just set up and sell anywhere they want. In an article by Paul Stephen of Star News Steve Harrington is quoted as saying “"It's the most amazing symbiosis in the world, The relationship there seems like a no-brainer. You're creating even more of a gravity for those locations, and I can see that relationship continuing to build. That's the biggest thing, in a lot of ways, that these trucks have going." In the same article, Michelle Savard, co-owner of Wilmington Brewing Company talks about the benefits for the breweries saying “It's almost to the point where people expect a food truck at a brewery, and they do stay longer when there's something to eat, so we end up selling more beer." Emily Barlas, co-owner of Flytrap Brewing, talks about how it benefits the decision to be located in historic buildings saying "It's a great symbiotic relationship, There's not a lot of easy access to food in this part of town, so it's a terrific opportunity for people to come sit down and stay longer than if they had to run off and have dinner somewhere

Station North, a current cultural hub for Baltimore, consists of small neighborhoods such as Charles Village, Bolton Hill, Mount Vernon and some financially deprived areas. It is much better known for its artistry and budding home for young talent than it’s heavy industrial past. In the late 1800s, it was a booming industrial area thriving with factories and business such as the North Avenue Market, Parkway Theatre and the Morgan Millwork Company. The basis of Station North began in the 1840s with the expansion of the city from the Inner Harbor via new roads began. As new methods of transportation began to run throughout the city, the area known as East North Ave began to develop into a thriving suburb.
I consider Carlisle to be a dead downtown because it only consists of a few small and rarely visited, individually owned stores, commercial space that has been on the market for years and a single, four-way stop intersection. Carlisle is a great example of exurbanization. Exurbanization was defined in this week’s lecture as, “movement of households from urban areas to locations outside the urban area but within commuting distance” (Fullerton, 2017). Carlisle is located approximately fifteen minutes north of Waterdown meaning that residents are close enough to Waterdown that the can come here to partake in Waterdown’s activities but do not have to reside in the busy town. Unlike Waterdown, Carlisle’s downtown has never been host to an event, has little variety among it’s space and is not very visitor-friendly.

"Coinciding with the immigrant population explosion and the growth of Philadelphia's industrial might, the brewing industry created jobs for newcomers. The Ortlieb's brewing industry gave the immigrants a sense of community and social identity. By second half of twentieth century,Philadelphia’s manufacturing economy experienced an inevitable decline. Adams did not show any representation about how when the brewery lost the business how it affected the neighborhood in the mural. As Baldwin might argue that the reason Adams might did not incorporate this reality in mural because of "people cannot bear an awful lot of reality".
