Lilly Davis Mrs. Leitsch English 1 14 March 2023 Title While reading, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, a theme stuck with me. People often think they know everything about something or just assume there's nothing to be worried about but this book made me connect it to things that happen today. Often people make decisions without knowing all the sides to it or thinking it completely through. In Fahrenheit 451, it touches on how technology has two sides and can be used to create positive advancements in the world but also be used for unfavorable things. To show this theme I chose to create a double sided canvas to capture the things you see about technology and the things we choose to ignore or don’t know about and how it is demonstrated in …show more content…
He included how technology can be used for non-benefiting things, “Three seconds later the game was done, the rat, cat, or chicken caught half across the areaway, gripped in gentling paws while a four-inch hollow steel needle plunged down from the proboscis of the hound to inject massive jolts of morphine or procaine.” (22). They created new technological devices that were used to kill things and people. The people got so use to using devices for everything they didn’t think anything bad of having a machine that kills. People today are not concerned with phones knowing everything about them whats next? The Mechanical Hound represents all the things the government created and how the people are unphased by it. I feel like this is because technology is such a large part of their life that they can’t see the unpleasant results. In the book, Mildred and her friends were watching tv and Montag unplugged it and the women were speechless, “The perspiration gathered with the silence and the subaudible trembling around and about and in the women who were burning with tension.” (92) Mildred and her friends could not deal with talking about everyday things because they were so unattached from the world and were in their tv
Yo (very close up) So recently we read Fahrenheit 451 (show a picture of the book), a story about burning books. A constant question throughout the story is “why?” What does the government of Fahrenheit 451 get from burning books?
Throughout history, society has bared witness to the effects the use of technology has imposed on humanity and individual lives. These effects have changed the directory of how one lives. There have been advantageous contributions made by technology, but there have also been unfavorable contributions that have come out of the advancements of technology. These effects are evident in the novel, Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury. In Bradbury’s society of Fahrenheit 451, the overuse of technology possesses the most severe effects such as a lack of deep, personal connections with others, and an over-reliance on devices to fill the needs of society.
The Detriments of Technology in Fahrenheit 451 While technology serves a great benefit to society, it simultaneously burns the connections people have with each other and the world around them. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury hones in on a world consumed by the wonders of technology. Books are seen as dangerous and illegal, and they are burned by the government in favor of more exciting and interesting technologies. The overuse of technology in Fahrenheit 451 hindered social skills, severed relationships, and promoted ignorance as it entered more households and communities.
The dystopian novel, Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, conveys the way technology can alter the way a civilization can think. In this novel, Bradbury reveals the true horrors of technology, through the main character's thoughts and actions. Guy Montag realizes the true void his heart is, trying to drown his sorrows in the cold, thick pages of books. Throughout the novel, technology has many different uses: destroying items that create negative feelings; wanting to create a positive source for society, and creating a false sense of reality. This causes the world to seem like this perfect environment that Montag doesn't fit inside..

Technology has opened the gates to a world of possibility, yet it goes without saying that the overuse of technology can prove to be rather detrimental. This is seen throughout Ray Bradbury’s novel, Fahrenheit 451. In the novel, people are absorbed in technology, leading them to become blindsighted to the underlying issues of their society such as the ban and eradication of books by firemen. Ray Bradbury uses metaphors and personification to illustrate how technology puts individuals in a constant state of distraction that prevents them from creating meaningful, healthy relationships and taking time to critically think. Technology is integral to the lives of many within the novel.
In the beginning of the story, Fahrenheit 451, Montag realizes how much books affect his life. His job is to burn any piece of literature there is. It was not until Clarisse came up to him and showed him how unhappy he is in his life. He was then beginning to question everything that he was doing. He then discovered what books were and how beneficial they are in his life.
Many common day dangers could be lying in our pockets or hanging on our walls. These so-called dangers are masked as entertainment for all but can lead to a life of troubles. Montag tries to tell everyone that technology is dangerous but only a few seem to listen. In his dystopian fiction Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury illustrates how technology can not only affect relationships but can render your life emotionless and restless.
The pitfalls of technology are one of the main complications in Ray Brabury’s work. In Fahrenheit 451, we see technology go wrong when a mechanical hound is searching for Montag, the main character, and kills the wrong person on purpose so that the people watching the chase on T.V. don’t get bored. This same theme is also evident in The Illustrated Man when in the story “The Veldt '', these spoiled kids get so wrapped up in their technological playroom that they end up killing their parents. This is also present in the story “Marionettes Inc.” when a man is tired of his life that he buys a clone, but the clone turns on him and takes his place in life. Both examples
Technology plays an important role in most societies. In Fahrenheit 451 it plays so much of a distraction that it changes the course of how the society is run. Mildred struggles with her use of technology and having her family. In Fahrenheit 451, people view technology as if they are family.
This ties into “In Social Media We Trust'' by the article talking about false information. No one knew who Montag was because no one went outside, so the government knew that they could kill a random pedestrian and falsely advertise the death of Guy Montag. The next way that technology is demonstrated in Fahrenheit 451 is the TV room, The TV room has taken over lifes like Mildred and others like her, so this ties into human connection as well. They get lost on the TV so it is their only friend. This proves that technology is taking over people's lives in a bad way.
Technology made everybody's life easier much easier, but it has also made the world a place where stupidity reins king. This obsession with technology is also depicted in Ray Bradbury's novel, Fahrenheit 451 that is set in the dystopian world of future technology. The book has a protagonist named Montag, a fireman whose job is to burning books because in this society, firemen burn books rather than protecting people by putting out fire. The government of this society is trying to make everyone more like zombies by destroying the knowledge that people have. In this novel, Bradbury warns readers about the dangers of technology and the way it has made people into passive (receivers) rather than active participates in their lives society uses to
In the novel, Farenheit 451 By Ray Bradbury Technlology is a huge piece of the characters lives and both perspectives are presented. The article, “How does technology affect our friendships” also presents both perspectives of technology. Overall, Fahrenheit 451 and “How does technology affect our friendships ” depict how technology can both help and hinder a society. Technology, although seen as good, still does greatly harm a society as delineated in
Technology has become an everyday component for us in our daily lives, but too much is starting to depreciate the humanity in our human race, and it has majorly been portrayed in the novel Fahrenheit 451. Technology has majorly affected the humanity of the characters in the text Technology has created a rift between Montag and his wife Mildred and other families in the text. When Montag stepped away from technology he started to understand the problems in his society and his newly gained humanity helped him rebel. Technology is leaving people to focus more on their devices and less on important events. Technology has majorly affected the humanity of the characters in the text.
Advances in technology and mass media are detrimental to society. Portrayed in the book, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, sets an ominous and eerie description of their new and high-tech hounds that were supposed to be the elite hunting mechanic. Yet, in the text, there seems to be a malfunction that would inevitably lead to harming the wrong people. The excerpt, “Mind Over Mass Media” by Steven Pinker, and the metastudy written by Medical News Today, further outline the negative effects of the development of human knowledge. Although the new advances in the robotic hunting hound are meant to help eliminate the enemies, they started to pose a threat to Guy Montag.
