For are future athletes, most can’t practice or even do a sport because homework takes up most their day, causing students to lose the privilege of doing an outside activity. Though, many would say doing homework keeps the school mode of learning and prepared for the next day. The final reason why homework can be harmful is homework can even cause family issues or illness. Many would say “How can homework cause family issues?”, well there is one main reason.
After eliminating sports, Premont School District found that,“About 160 people attended parent-teacher night compared with the 6 the year before” (Ripley 11). Nathan, a former Premont quarterback, stated that, “There was all this extra time” (Ripley 11). This data suggest that because sports were eliminated, parents became more involved and students had extra time for work and studying. Standardized tests are tests that students take globally, and yearly. Students try to cram in weeks and years of knowledge in just to get prepared for theses tests. Is this is a healthy lifestyle for students? Schools should eliminate standardized tests. First, standardized tests cause stress among students.

70% percent of students use phones, tablets, or play video games before school. Also people wouldn’t be able to finish their homework after school they would have to wait till the morning and try to rush to get it done. It would be much easier if we just left the time how it is. Kids grades would drop grades and everything would be done at last second. Less kids would be passing grades.

After the first period of class, which nothing much really happened but explaining school rules and such. I began to realize that high school feels the same as middle school expect there were four times the students than there is in eighth grade; walking down the halls I can feel eyes of the higher grades scoping not only myself but a majority of the other freshmen knowing we are struggling to find our scheduled classes. An especially crucial obstacle that can arise while having the same four classes everyday for a full semester is the possible one year gap of a certain subject. For instance, a student can have math first semester of his sophomore year, but may have to wait until the second semester of his junior year to take a more advanced class that will build on what he had previously learned. This long break can lead him to forget certain key concepts. Therefore, his grades may be disrupted, as well as his performance on college admissions tests, such as the SAT. This type of dilemma has a fairly simple solution: implement A and B days.

Doesn’t everybody need a break from their work to be more effective? Teachers think that homework is very useful to students, but really homework harms students in many different ways. Some kids spend over two hours out of school working on homework that they have gotten that day, and sometimes struggle with understanding why they have to complete that assignment. I think homework is harmful because then kids don’t have a chance to do things that they are interested in. Some families want to know why homework is harmful, how much homework they should get each night, and even the effects of too much homework.
According to Shannon Gilchrist, with the Columbus Dispatch, in Ohio alone, it is estimated that students incur approximately 112 standardized tests before graduating from high school (Gilchrist, 2015). Additionally, Dr. Richard A. Ross and the Ohio Department of Education (2015) released that over the course of a child’s school career, he or she is subjected to over 257 hours of mandated standardized testing (Ross, 2015). It must be understood that this measure of hours spent testing is miniscule in comparison to the time that is wasted instructing students how to take the tests. A colossal amount of time is spent in the classroom teaching students the types of problems that will be on the test, as well as tips and tricks to help them get higher scores, weeks, and even months before their testing dates. This information is only useful to students in regards to taking one standardized test, one time.

Struggles of Standardized Testing Students have learned since the beginning of grade school that grades matter. Once a student reaches middle school it turns into preparation for high school. Then finally once the student reaches high school it is preparation time for the universal standard test, for most, taken your junior year. Standardized testing should be removed from college standards because it only evaluates one day of testing instead of a student’s entire schooling career, teachers prepare students for the test and not teach to learn, and the testing does not define if a student will succeed in college.
There is a Problem with Standardized Testing In today’s education department, the success of a student is determined by their ability to excel on a standardized test. However, society is starting to debate whether standardized tests should actually determine whether a student passes to the next level. In both Anaya Kamenetz’s book and TV documentary, The Test: Why Our Schools Are Obsessed with Standardized Testing but You Don’t Have to Be, she describes problems in within the school system, ultimately leading the corruption and mistrust of the school system.
