What Kind of Hero is Charlie? Charlie’s qualities exemplify him as a modern hero because he has no sense of community and the world he lives in is unsafe. One example of Charlie, having no sense of community's is due to his mental disability. Therefore, it's hard for him to interact with other people. Since it's hard for Charlie to interact with other people, he feels like he has no meaning in life. In a situation that occurs between Charlie and his peers, Charlie states, “Charlie goes over to Gus, who catches him by the throat. As Charlie starts to get more intelligent, his brain starts to develop ideas that he would have not known before. Charlie states, “I figured out a new way to set up the mixing machines in the bakery to speed up the production. Mr Donner never says he will save labor cost and increase profits. He gave me fifty dollars bonus and a ten dollar a week raise”(59). This evidence shows, how Charlie intelligence helps him to come up with a new way to use the machine. Since Charlie comes up with a new way of using the machine, Mr Donner raises up his profit. Since Charlie’s profit went up, he now knows he can contribute to society using his intelligence. Charlie smartness and contribution was not only meaningful to him, due to the raise of his profit and his new idea that will benefit his job, but also to his boss and for saving labor money to make the production run quicker. Charlie’s contribution made an impact on Mr. Donner by raising his profit and proving that Charlie is smart, Charlie feels appreciated because his boss took his idea into action which is very rare for him to also raise his profit. Charlie has shown how his smartness helped him contribute to resourceful ideas, which has earned him a sense of meaning in life because he proved he is smart and nothing depicts him from being different than any one
A hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. In the book Everlost by Neal Shusterman the hero is a young girl named Allie. Allie shows many of the common characteristics of an archetypal hero. Although Allie may not have all of the characteristics, she has most of the important ones. Allie from the book Everlost is an example of an archetypal hero.
There are many traits that heroes can demonstrate in stories. The two stories The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, and “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell both have heros in them. Connell’s story portrays a hero named Rainsford, who crosses a mysterious island where humans are hunted for fun, and he himself has to run for his life. Twain’s book follows a young boy named Huck, who has run away from his father, and his older friend Jim, who is a runaway slave. Jim is more of a hero because he is more self-sacrificing, unafraid of negative consequences, and more determined.
In the words of Christopher Reeves, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere in spite of overwhelming obstacles”. Heroes are not born, it is someone they become. It is not determined by how they look, but by what what they do, and they come in all shapes and sizes. Heroes are willing to help others by acting quickly, often times just being ordinary people rising above their situation to do extraordinary things, without the expectation of fame and glory. Heroes are always willing to help and act quickly.
The stigma of the situation caused mass overreaction. The residents made rash decisions without much thought. Charlie, a normal man with no bad intentions, shot Pete Van Horn, an average man that walked to the next neighborhood, because he thought he was the monster. Charlie couldn’t see Pete and let the overwhelming fear of the situation get to him. He immediately regretted this, having had no intention of doing this horrible

He has tried his best throughout his life to try and become smart and now with the help of the operation he will have this opportunity. In a quote from Flowers for Algernon it states, “Artificially increased intelligence deteriorates at a rate of time directly proportional to the quantity of the increase” (Keyes 205). Charlie will not maintain his intelligence instead his intelligence level will begin to drop and he will go back to being dumb.
Hero “Heroes are ordinary people who make themselves extraordinary (Geraid Way).” A person who walks beside you on the sidewalk or smiles at you when you pass by them could be the hero that saves you when danger is present. A hero is an ordinary person who has extraordinary traits of acting quickly in a difficult situation, being determined to help any citizen in need and always steps up to help even if it means possibly getting injured. Heroes are people who will respond without hesitation when danger is upon them.

You don’t belong in this school anyway” (54). It’s clear that he thinks himself superior to Charlie. By calling Charlie a degenerate, and saying he doesn’t belong in the school, he establishes a difference between them, which to him, justifies the beating that he then gives Charlie. Overall, it’s clear that a sense of superiority and lack of awareness of the victim are two of many ways that people try and justify mistreatment of the intellectually
While Charlie is suppressed to the lower levels of society, he has the courage to take huge risks which may possibly raise his status greatly in society. It is the language of science that is the key factor in contributing to the freedom of his thoughts, which raises his status high above others in society. Firstly, while Charlie is suppressed to the lower levels of society, he has the courage to take huge risks which may possibly raise his status greatly in society. There are many instances throughout this story when Charlie was disrespected by others just because he had mental disabilities.
(Keyes 228-229) So Charlie’s “friends” beat him up not the cop. Charlie is being convinced that the cop beat him up, but Joe Carp and Frank Reilly beat Charlie up. Once Charlie’s I.Q. raises he will realize who his “friends” really are. Overall Charlie was better off knowing who people really
Additionally, because the story is in the first person, we can see that Charlie does not understand he is being made fun
Charlie gains intelligence like he always wanted, but only to have it be taken away in a time frame of a couple months. Charlie states that, “The hypothesis here proven may be described simply in the following terms: artificially increased intelligence deteriorates at a rate almost proportional to the quantity of the increase.” With realizing the cost of the surgery, he states, “Now that it’s definite, I don’t want it to happen.” Charlie experienced emotions such as anger, sadness, and even love with his intelligence. Now all this will be taken away; like taking away a favorite toy from a child.
