Unfortunately for Palestinians they have been caught up in wars between the Arabs and Jews many times. They have also had their own disputes with the Jews because they too believe Israel belongs to them. Palestinians are pretty much the same as Arabs, the only difference is Arabs have a state that they belong too and Palestinians do not. When it comes to war the most important thing to focus on is when Israel became a state. A civil war (War of Independence) irrupted in 1948 that removed massive amounts of Palestinians away from their homes causing them to be refugees in surrounding Arab states. They could never become organized enough to be seen as a true treat by the Zionists. What is important to know is Israel and Palestine are both the same thing it just matters whose views are focused on. War has caused the Palestinians to have a loss in identity because they has been removed from where they feel they belong and they are culturally separated by tribe like organization.
The Palestinian religious views are extremely similar to the Arabs. They are also Muslim, and they believe Jerusalem is a holy city. They have used their beliefs to magnify their hatred of the Jews and want to see them all dead (extremist view). The Emergence of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) after WWI began a gain in political violence because the Palestinians became more organized in order to achieve Palestinian right of return. Again, because they are so unorganized Palestinians don’t have a legitimate army to fight anyone unless it is Arabs states fighting for them.
