Unfortunately for Palestinians they have been caught up in wars between the Arabs and Jews many times. They have also had their own disputes with the Jews because they too believe Israel belongs to them. Palestinians are pretty much the same as Arabs, the only difference is Arabs have a state that they belong too and Palestinians do not. When it comes to war the most important thing to focus on is when Israel became a state. A civil war (War of Independence) irrupted in 1948 that removed massive amounts of Palestinians away from their homes causing them to be refugees in surrounding Arab states. They could never become organized enough to be seen as a true treat by the Zionists. What is important to know is Israel and Palestine are both the same thing it just matters whose views are focused on. War has caused the Palestinians to have a loss in identity because they has been removed from where they feel they belong and they are culturally separated by tribe like organization.
The Palestinian religious views are extremely similar to the Arabs. They are also Muslim, and they believe Jerusalem is a holy city. They have used their beliefs to magnify their hatred of the Jews and want to see them all dead (extremist view). Religion has been used as a tool to attempt to strengthen Palestinian hopes and

The Emergence of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) after WWI began a gain in political violence because the Palestinians became more organized in order to achieve Palestinian right of return. Again, because they are so unorganized Palestinians don’t have a legitimate army to fight anyone unless it is Arabs states fighting for them. Just like Shipler says “Power is decidedly one-sided; the Jews have it and the Arabs do not” (Shipler, 2002). Terrorism is just a haphazard way to challenge the power that the Jews already
While in the White House, President Truman was said to have been barraged with supporters of a Jewish state persuading and pressuring him to go in favor of the making of Israel. At the time, many countries including America did not want Jewish people living in their country. A couple were jealous of the success they were having on business. Even though many of us do not want to admit it, a lot of people know that the U.S. had a dark history of anti-semitism. Many Jews had wanted to come into the United States, but they were not allowed in because of the U.S. immigration quotas and even voted against letting Jews in America.
In 1917, the British defeated the Ottomans and occupied Palestine . This promise was later incorporated into the mandate that was granted to Britain by the League of nations in 1922. During their mandate from 1922 to 1948, the British found that their contradictory promises to Jews and Palestinian Arabs were difficult to reconcile. The Zionists envisioned opening emigration on a large-scale and some spoke of a Jewish state encompassing all Palestine.
In November of 1917 a resolution calling for the establishment of a Jewish homeland in Palestine. This resolution caused anger amongst Arab community they believed Palestine would be a free Arab State. This declaration was made for one to influence US Jewish businessmen in supporting war. The Jewish population continued to support Russian involvement,
Creation of Israel in 1948 Jews had to leave Israel in the first place because they were forced from their homes by the Roman Empire. When the Jews returned to Israel in 1948, Palestinians were still living there. The return of the Jews was a problem because it caused war to break out between the Arabs and Israelis. Wars between the two are still occurring today.
Zionism is the establishment and protection of a new Nation designated for Jews. Zionism was used in the book because of Hitler and his ruin due to his hatred of Jews and the war he started. Reuven Malter's father David Malter felt very passionate about starting a new nation in Isreal and not waiting around for Messiah! He put in hours on end of work and commitment in order to get Zionism acknowleged and taken seriously throughout all of the different neighborhoods.
Something must be done about their situation. Both the Jewish people and the Palestinian people have lost too many sons and daughters and have shed too much blood”(144). The Jews often got frustrated at themselves and other people. Jews found themselves hopeless around the clock in the concentration camps. Hopelessness ia very troubling thing to have.
“ Jewish people were building Jerusalem 3,000 years ago and the Jewish people are building Jerusalem today” ( Source A ). The Jewish people have spent almost their entire existence building up a place where they can remain safe. “ But the distinctive nationality of Jews neither can, will, nor must be destroyed. It cannot be destroyed…”
There are also Universities that offer courses about Jewish Civilization, Zionism and the Holocaust. Only 8.7% of Jews speak Hebrew, but this is expected to increase in the future due to the enrolment of kids attending Jewish Day Schools which is more than 50%. The Jewish Community is also very Zionistic. They have many fundraisers and Youth Groups all promoting Aliyah and helping to support Israel. As a way to educate the younger generations, Australia has built 2 Holocaust museums, 1 in Melbourne and the 1 in Sydney.
The root word of zionism is zion; zion is a hebrew term that relates to Jerusalem. Although starting ideas of the zionists have remained in history for hundreds of years, the first acts of zionism were formally introduced in the 19th century. Some historians say that the tenseness of the jews and the europeans, may have been the reason that the zionist movement was created in the first place. During 1894 there was an event that had sparked outrage of among jews and other various people. This event is known as “Dreyfus Affair”, “Zionism History.”
Jews are not only hated for what they do outside Israel, but especially for what they do inside of their “Holy Land”. A more recent example of an anti-Semitism attack would be the Holocaust that transpired 1943. Written to be the largest, most well-known Jewish attack in history, thousands upon thousands of Jews had been composed and transported to Nazi death camps. The massacre of the Hebrews and the Holocaust are both similar in forms of that during both occurrences, they were slaughtered for the reason that they are “God’s chosen people”.
The Unites States was founded upon the, “principles of freedom, democracy, and rule of law that we work together,” (p. 1). Israel shares these same principles with the United States and has formed a relationship solely for supporting and maintaining these principles. Ali Abunimah points out that the United States is a hypocrite in how it continues to promotes itself as a country of freedom and equality, yet harbors inequalities covered up with “the war on drugs”. Instead of segregation and lynching, the United States imprisons and accuses individuals biasedly, based on stereotypes. Today, both Israel and the Unites States are working together to preserve the principles they were founded upon, but Israel is narrowly focused on freedom for the Jewish majority.
Israel gained its territory in wars but a big part of it was from the six-day war in 1967 where Israel conquered the east bank including Jerusalem from Jordan, Gaza strip and Sinai from Egypt (after a few years they gave it back to Egypt in order to have peace), and the Golan Heights from Syria (HISTORY: The State of Israel). The idea of a Jewish country was formed a long time before the Holocaust happened, due to the Holocaust the U.N, which made the decision of creating the country, agreed to the idea because of the discrimination of Jews. As a result, they thought that they deserved a country of their own. Since Israel was formed it participated in seven wars and two Intifadas.
Yet, despite the unbreakable bond between the holy city and Judaism, Muslim extremists and their left-wing allies across the globe resorted to bigotry and violence following the announcement. They mask their hatred of Jews under the guise of hatred of Israel, the one and only Jewish state. On December 10th, four days after the President’s decision, a synagogue in Gothenburg, Sweden, was firebombed by three pro-Palestinian terrorists. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Less than fifty years as a racist and anti-Semitic neo-Nazis minded groups were denied the fact of the Holocaust or claim that he had a much smaller scale. This has its reasons: both political and anti-Semitic. Some want to whitewash Nazism, others believe that the State of Israel emerged as compensation to Jews by the horrors of World War II and denying the Holocaust as a historical fact, deny Israel the right to exist. That is why those who question the story, supported by the Arab countries.
Ben Gurion states the essential problem in Israel/Palestine: “we and they want the same thing: We both want Palestine. And that is the fundamental conflict.” (Shlaim, 2001, p. 18) For both Israelis and Palestinians it is nationalist conflict, there is a clear reason in the action of both parties, a territorially secure state. Yet, both Israel and Hamas seem to accept that negotiation is the eventual end through which to meet their nationalist ends (Hroub, 2006; Shlaim, 2001).
