The Salem Witch Trials was a series of false accusations of witchcraft taking place in Salem, which during the seventeenth century, was apart of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The trials began in February of 1692, when the first three victims, Sarah Good, Sarah Osbourne, and a slave girl named Tituba, were sentenced to their hangings (Brooks). They were caught in the winter of 1691, playing a fortune telling game with a makeshift ball (Boyer). There are many theories and beliefs of why this hysteria had spread across salem. Satan, internal problems, religion, revenge and sickness were what the people of Salem had believed what caused this hysteria. What really caused all this to happen ?

In the Crucible, a play written by Arthur Miller, takes place in Salem, Massachusetts, during the Salem Witch Trials. Witchery is thought of as evil by the puritans living there. Witchery was believed to be linked with the devil, and bad luck. In the film version of the crucible, when someone was accused of witchery, by a group of girls who claimed to be able to see the devil with them, they were brought to court.
