When John Wayne Gacy came into this world, it was to make an impact. A good impact. Gacy indeed, did not live up to that idea. Gacy was born March 17, 1942 in Chicago Illinois. His parents, John Stanley Gacy and Marion Elaine Robinson, and his older sister, Joanne, would welcome him into this world. His younger sister, Karen, would later join the family. Gacy was named after John Gacy, a Hollywood icon. Growing up, Gacy’s father held high expectations for his son. In his fathers eyes, Gacy never came close to living up to his expectations. Gacy was overweight and unathletic. Gacy had a congenital heart condition that limited his physical activities. The root of Gacy’s problems come from his father.

This was the year Gacy was indicted and convicted on sodomy charges after sexually assaulting two teenage boys. He pleaded guilty to one count of sodomy to a fifteen year old boy, but pleaded not guilty to charges relating to other young men. He was sentenced to ten years in prison at the Anamosa State Penitentiary. Out of the ten years he was supposed to serve he only served 18 months of it. Gacy got out on good behavior. During his time in prison, Marylnn filed for divorce on grounds of “cruel and inhuman treatment.” Marylnn gained custody of both of the children and Gacy wouldn’t see them ever again.
