To read or not to read, that is the question. Shakespeare in my and many other opinions, should be in our school curriculum. As a result Shakespeare has been a part of our culture for almost 4 and a half of century. Secondly Shakespeare has given us valuable life lessons, these have molded us and influence our everyday life. First and foremost, Shakespeare have influenced many people by using his works and connecting cultures. The Bard joined us together by creating words and phrases that we use in our everyday language, to be exact over 1700 words and phrases. Phrases includes, “knock, knock, who’s there.” And “Dead as a Door Nail” In addition, Shakespeare gave us lessons and still give and inspire us to this day. The Bard’s work can
Even though we know little about Shakespeare there is a lot that we can appreciate about him. Shakespeare was very talented. He was able to blend idealism with realism. “Shakespeare lived in a time when the romantic spirit was melting with modern, idealism with realism (Bierbaum Document 3).” Shakespeare had creative power that allowed him to create amazing literature pieces.
Why read Shakespeare? Many people ask like the Author Mack Michael. Well in his words “literature is life”. The better you understand the topic of it the easier things will become for you in your everyday life cause the world is based off education the more you have the better off you will be. The real question is, Can you read Shakespeare?Mack generates an effective argument based on Shakespeare's hard work and dedication to his pieces through his use of Rhetorical devices and, pathos towards his audience.
454 years ago, William Shakespeare was the star of society. Everyone wished they could string together words as well as he could. His plays were the hits of the town. But now, high-school students dread the Shakespeare unit, complaining that it is ‘useless to read some old guy ’s work’.
People have been reading Shakespeare for a very long time, why stop now? Michael Mack presented a speech to college freshmen explaining how reading Shakespeare is important. Reading Shakespeare can provide insight to the real world, preparing you for what is bound to happen. Mack developed an effective argument that clarifies the purpose of reading Shakespeare and how it helps us through his use of rhetorical devices, and evidence. Shakespeare uses many analogies to real life in his plays, which provides readers with an understanding.
William Shakespeare’s work has been involved in the high school curriculum for many years. Many say that Shakespeare’s ideas reveal the true human nature and that's why young adults need to study about him; However, the more that teens study Shakespeare some have agreed that it shouldn’t be apart of the standard High School curriculum due to the fact that the old English has no importance to them. Although William Shakespeare is an amazing dramatist and his works show the true reality of the world, Shakespeare’s writings and ideas need to be offered as an elective rather than having it forced on students in the normal English classes. Young teenargers today believe that the peices William Shakespeare wrote are irrelevant to them, and they are correct.
Shakespeare, also known as the “Bard of Avon” (the nickname was provided by wikipedia), is one of the most famous and influential authors of english literature. In September 2008, at the Catholic University of America in Washington DC, Michael Mack (a professor) presented his opinion on the value of reading Shakespeare as a speech to college freshman. While presenting his opinion, Mack makes a compelling argument that even though reading Shakespeare is hard, it is worth it in the end and not only is it as important as other courses you may take in college but you will also gain something from it. His use of rhetorical devices and claims helps him support his argument.
Should Shakespeare be taught ? Do you think Shakespeare be taught in school? Shakespeare should not be taught in 9th grade. William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet should not be included in the ninth grade curriculum because it is very hard to understand and not many students may like his plays.
Finally, the Bard of Avon shouldn’t be taught in classes because it’s difficult for students to understand, his work is not culturally diverse, and is outdated for today’s students. Of course though some people would disagree and say that Shakespeare should continue on being taught in class because “Shakespeare is truly a writer for for the whole world” (378). Yes, he may be a great writer but classrooms everywhere so diverse culturally this generation. Dana Dusbiber a english teacher from Sacramento who refuses to teach Shakespeare to her students said “I do not believe that a long-dead, British guy is the only writer who can teach my students about the human condition” ( Bradford Thomas). A dead 400 year guy year old guy shouldn’t be the only one who teaches students of today’s generation the values of love, war, and life.
What are your thoughts on Shakespeare ? Do you think it’s hard to understand a pretty big majority of the time ? well, if so , don’t worry because you aren’t alone. Michael Mack, the author of the text “why read shakespeare?”thinks that although reading shakespeare is quite the challenge, it’s worth your effort. Mack incorporates an effective argument that truly relates to what the readers may think of shakespeare, he shares his thoughts and how he felt the same as everyone else through the beginning through his use of background knowledge and claims.
Should Romeo and Juliet be taught in schools? The play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is about the romance between two Italian teens from powerful and feuding families that erupts in bloodshed among the families. Romeo and Juliet should be taught in school because it talks about teenage depression, family drama, and revenge. Romeo and Juliet should be taught in schools because it talks about Teenage Depression. For example, in Act 1, Romeo is depressed because the girl he likes does not like him back and he goes into a deep stage of depression.
3 Shakespeare’s Contributions In the early 16th century, The English language was not highly rated. It was rather seen as a language spoken day-to-day by the lower-caste society due to it sounding barbaric and lacking the sophistication that foreign languages required. Therefore, it was not promoted at schools. Children were taught Latin and Greek in schools, because they were the default languages for scholarly and ecclesiastical communication.
Author D. H. Lawrence said “When I read Shakespeare I am struck with wonder that such trivial people should muse and thunder in such lovely language.” Lawrence noticed that even though Shakespeare's topics may not be relevant now, they are worth reading because they are amazing pieces of literature. Romeo and Juliet is a very important and influential piece of literature that should be taught in schools. Romeo and Juliet has some language throughout the play that most middle schoolers would not comprehend. Without reading Shakespeare most children would not have the opportunity or inspiration to learn what these words mean.
In my opinion the students of the Halton District School Board are not learning enough historical literature. They only learn the basic fundamental and not the advanced literature that built up modern english. Education leads children to make their life and career decisions. As Well as empowers people to make change and solve problems and most importantly it provides knowledge in real life scenarios Children learn by seeing and reading interesting and easy to remember knowledge. I feel as if shakespeare is vital but is not appealing to young.
In the twenty-first century, the plays of William Shakespeare may at first appear dated and irrelevant: they use archaic language, are set in the age of Kings and Queens, and the Kingdom of England. However, it would be plainly mistaken to construe that Shakespeare’s works do not still remain integral to a twenty-first century society. Shakespeare’s plays gave the words and expressions one uses every day, revolutionized the art of theater as it was known, and forewarned about issues that would unknowingly still apply centuries later. Therefore, Shakespeare has had a profound effect on our lives by enriching our language and culture, as well as providing ideas that would still apply five centuries later, and it would thus behoove us to learn from his works and life.
Being an aspiring high school English teacher, questions about how to teach certain books or subjects in class is something that has to be considered. One of the biggest issues with Shakespeare to students isn’t that its boring or a bad read, but reading old English is the difficult part. No Fear Shakespeare was created for just this reason, to allow students to be able to read the same story as Shakespeare wrote but in modern terms. While this is convenient and an easier way to understand the text, it shouldn’t be used as the only source of reading the story. The words that Shakespeare chose were chosen for a reason, and some of these “translations” from old English to modern English can take away from the story.
