However, there was a severe disconnect between the freedom they fought for and the freedom the state legislatures applied within the colonies. Through their harsh treatment and pushing out of the Native Americans it is evident that the colonists’ had no regard for the freedom of the people they are pushing out. The persistence of slavery within the colonies is contradictory to their blasphemous claim of enslavement by the British. Finally, the oppression of both women and the lower class suggests that the Patriots were fighting for the principle of freedom but had no intention of implementing freedom within the colonies. The propertied men’s fight for freedom is hypocritical to their actions because there is no implementation of freedom as one would assume a colony fighting for freedom would have.

Also We all heard about the rugged American patriots who were fed up with the British Tyrannous control of the 13 colonies that they decided to revolt against the most power empire in that time of history, Britain, and in a strange turn of events, they won. They, however didn’t win without the help of the French, Spanish, and most of the rest of European nation, whether formally involved or not. Declaration of Independence Precis Thomas Jefferson in his historical document, The Declaration of Independence (1776), asserts that the colonies should break free from Britain’s tyranny. Jefferson supports his assertion through the use of anaphora, parallel structure, imagery, emotional appeal to patriotism, and logical appeal to the colonist’s basic rights. Jefferson’s purpose is to advocate for the separation of Britain and the colonies in order to escape the British tyranny that King George imposes on the American colonists. Jefferson writes in a measured tone for the British parliament, King George, and for colonists who have been a victim of Britain’s oppression.
Under the control of the British Parliament in 1775, the American colonies consider going to war in order to gain independence from Britain. In “Patrick Henry’s Speech in the Virginia Convention,” Henry addresses the need for American colonists to work together to stop the British from controlling them. Thus, Henry’s periodic sentence, rhetorical questions, antithesis, and anaphora successfully convince the American colonists to unite against the British and to bring awareness to their wrongdoings. Firstly, Henry applies periodic sentences and rhetorical questions to convey the idea that the American Colonists must fight back against the British by working together if they want to gain freedom. Henry believes that “if [they] wish to
Samuel Johnson’s disdain for the colonial perspective is made clear through his outright contempt for our ideals of liberty and beliefs in the natural rights of men. In fact, he sees us less as men and more comparable to beasts. Perhaps domesticated animals, subdued over many years by the gentle hand of the Crown, and now, after showing the first signs of disobedience, deserve to be punished for disobeying our master. He begins with a thinly veiled threat toward the colonies, implicitly suggesting that regardless of any valid reasoning for our refusal to submit to British taxation, our resistance may effortlessly be overruled by the might of the British empire. However, he’s willing to temporarily cast aside this tenet of his beliefs and fight a war with words, admitting that “power is no sufficient evidence of truth.”
Reading your essay has opened my eyes on how some people viewed the revolutionary act completed on the night of December 16th, 1773. I think that it would only be fair to explain exactly why we had decided to complete such a daring deed. The treatment of colonists throughout has lately been questionable. Taxes on the things we need most with money that we have worked hard for is insane. We have done what we could to resist these actions from the King, but we could not deal with it any longer.
